There is an interesting development going on at HTC, just after the release of the HTC One M9 HTC introduced a One M8 lookalike with slightly tweaked specs.

The smartphone is launched in Europe today, the HTC One M8s is looking identical to the One M8 when you’re looking at the outside. The same metal construction, BoomSound speakers and the Duo Camera setup. The device is available in three colors: Silver, gold and gun metal (no two-tone like the One M9) and the M8s is the same size as the One M8.

The differences between those two devices are inside, instead of the Snapdragon 801 processor inside the One M8, the One M8s is coming with the Snapdragon 615 SoC, the 615 is a octa-core chip which we’ve seen in mid-range devices like their own HTC Desire 826. There is also a change to the battery size, it is now using a 2840mAh battery instead of the 2600mAh battery in the One M8.

They stepped away from their UltraPixel sensor and the device is now using a 13MP shooter at the back and a 5MP at the front. If you are looking to the camera you can compare the device with the One (M8 Eye) launched in China last year.

The other specification of the device like the 5-inch Full-HD display, are identical to the One M8. The M8s is running Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box, but it is still using the Sense 6 interface rather than the Sense 7 which is delivered with the One M9.

What HTC wants to do with this device isn’t totally clear, rather than a new device between the older One M8 and the Desire 826. With that said, some buyers who loved the look and feel of the One M8 will come back and maybe even buy this device, as the price is lower than the One M8 and the M9. The One M8s will be available in markets in Europe, for now I only now the Dutch and UK prices. If you are living in the Netherlands, the focusing price for the retailers is at €499 euro. For the UK the price for an unlocked device is £379.99.
