The much-awaited flagship device from HTC might finally arrive later in this month. HTC has scheduled an event on May 23 and there is some pretty high chance that it might be the HTC U12, HTC U12+ or maybe both. Although the brand hasn’t revealed the name of the device yet but being in the news for a long time it has to be HTC U12.

First, let get this naming clear. According to previous leaks, HTC might skip with the U12 variant completely but on the other hand, will announce the HTC U12+ as the flagship device of the year 2018.

The Taiwanese company posted a picture on their Twitter handle showing a launch date of their next device. The picture shows all of the components of the upcoming device. The caption of the image reads “Coming Soon. A phone that is more than the sum of its specs”. You can see two small camera modules right at the top which clearly indicates that the device will come with dual front camera setup. Then there are two larger camera modules combining them will create our main camera of the device. You will also see a USB Type C but sadly no 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, at the extreme left, there is a hybrid sim tray which means MicroSD option is available for you.

HTC U12/U12+ expected specifications

HTC U12/U12+

We already have almost every single specification of the upcoming flagship device thanks to the tons of leaks. HTC U12 might come 5.99-inch QHD+ LCD display with the thin bezel design having 18:9 aspect ratio. Although 2018 is going to be the year of notches, we still don’t have any solid leak about whether the device will have a notch. Previous leaks suggest that the HTC 12 or HTC U12+ will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of internal storage.

Talking about the cameras, we’re expecting dual rear cameras – 12 MP + 16 MP UltraPixel camera having a f/1.5 aperture. Since this is the flagship device, the cameras should have OIS.  There are two sets of 8MP camera sensors on the front of the display which aligns with the teaser revealed by the brand itself on Twitter. Also, there is going to be a 3,420 mAh battery. Just like HTC U11, this phone will also come with a squeezable side from where you can activate your Google assistant.

Another leak tells us that the device will have a horizontal dual camera setup, LED flash, a fingerprint sensor at the front and an HTC branding at the back. All of these leaked specifications line up with the components shown in the teaser image.

It’s interesting that HTC is still in the smartphone game after Google acquired a major chunk of their mobile engineering division. Well, I am looking forward to this May 23 launch to see what HTC has under its pocket.
