Huawei has announced its top of the line smartphones following the newer trends set by the likes of Apple and Samsung. The Huawei Mate 10 series was announced yesterday and a total of two smartphones were made official. Moving towards the end of 2017, this was one of the last major launches of the year and Huawei did manage to grab a few eyeballs.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro

The Chinese smartphone maker took the path that Samsung had set earlier this year and has launched the Mate 10 Pro with an 18:9 display and thin bezels. A good thing here is the OLED panel that has been used for the 6-inch display. The resolution of the display is, however, is limited to FHD+. Because of the thin bezels all around, the fingerprint scanner has shifted to the back.

It will come powered by a Kirin 970 processor and will have up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage on the higher-end variant. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is one of the first devices to come running Android 8.0 Oreo from out-of-the-box. It will have EMUI 8 over it, though. The battery capacity of the Mate 10 Pro is 4000mAh.

You’ll find two Leica-branded cameras on the back of the phone with one of them being monochrome. The primary sensor is of 20MP while the secondary black and white camera is of 12MP. Both the cameras will sport f/1.6 aperture and will be able to record 4K videos. The front camera is of 8MP that has an f/2.0 aperture.

In case you want a phone with a higher resolution display, then here is the Huawei Mate 10 but you’ll have to settle for a 16:9 LCD display. The phone sports a 5.9-inch QHD display in the same old 16:9 fashion. The bezels on this phone are on the thinner side despite its aspect ratio and Huawei also managed to find some space and place the fingerprint scanner on the front itself.

The camera and other internals remain to be similar to the Mate 10 Pro including the Kirin 970 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and those dual cameras of 20MP and 12MP. While the Pro offered IP67 water resistance and IR blaster, the Mate 10 retains the microSD card slot and the 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also a Porsche Design model that sports 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

Huawei is pushing quite hard on artificial intelligence too and calls its in-house Kirin 970 NPU, or neural processing unit. The company wants to use machine learning and AI to determine your usage and allocate the resources accordingly. As the company claims, it will help it prevent the performance degradation Android phones generally face.

These two phones will also bring Samsung DeX like desktop docking solution but without the dock. What you need to do is just connect your Mate 10-series phone to a minor via the USB Type-C port of the phone and get a desktop-like experience. This will work for up to three hours and it will support resizable windows and Office. The phone will continue to work as normal while being docked.

The European pricing of the phone has been made available. The Mate 10 will cost €699 ($824), the Mate 10 Pro will cost €799 ($942), and the top end Porsche design will sport a price tag of €1,395 ($1,645).
