Huawei Mate 20 Lite launched at IFA 2018 along with AI Cube Smart Speaker

At IFA 2018, Huawei announced the launch date of their next-gen Mate series flagship smartphones. Huawei Mate 20 series will come in three different variants – Mate 20 Lite, Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. As the name suggests, this is the successor of the previously launched Mate 10 series. Although the Mate 20 and the pro variant is due for the next month, the brand went ahead and launched the lite variant. If you’re not aware, the IFA show 2018 is taking place in Berlin, Germany.

Speaking of key specifications of the Mate 20 Lite, the smartphone comes with Kirin 970 chipset with AI, 4 cameras, and a 19.5:9 display with a notch of course.

Huawei Mate 20 Lite

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite comes with a 6.3-inch full-HD+ LCD display having an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The display comes with a pixel density of 409ppi along with a notch on the front as mentioned before. The device is powered by a Kirin 970 chipset paired with a Mali-G51 GPU. In terms of storage, you’ll be getting 4GB of RAM and a 64GB of internal storage packed inside. As usual, the onboard storage is expandable via MicroSD up to 512GB.

Speaking of optics, the smartphone comes with a dual camera setup at the back having a 20-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. Both the sensor has an aperture of f/1.8 and PDAF support. Just like the rear, there is a dual camera on the front with a 24-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary lens. The front sensors have a fixed focus f/2.0 aperture.

All of this runs on the latest version of EMUI on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by a 3,750mAh battery. Other specifications include Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Huawei Mate 20 Lite pricing and availability

The device comes in three different colour options – Black, Platinum Red, and Sapphire Blue. The price for the smartphone is set at GBP 379 which translates roughly to Rs. 34,800. Huawei Mate 20 Lite will be available through Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone retail stores in the US starting September 5. There is no word on the availability for the Indian market as of now.

Huawei AI Cube and Huawei Locator

Huawei Cube

Well, apart from the Mate 20 Lite, the Chinese smartphone maker also launched something called AI Cube and Locator. The AI Cube is the brand’s very first smart speaker with AI-capabilities as the name suggests. The Cube comes with four inbuilt speakers giving you 360-degree audio experience. The smart speaker supports Alexa giving you an ability to perform various tasks like streaming music, controlling smart gadgets and other smart stuff.

That’s not what the Cube offers, it also works as an internet router with Wi-Fi 802.11ac with support for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with up to 1200Mbps connection support. There is no word on the pricing as of now and the speaker will be available in Europe soon. The AI Cube interestingly also comes with  Histen technology, an aluminum diaphragm, passive radiators, and far-field voice recognition.

Huawei Locators

The Locator, as the name tells us, is basically a GPS tracker which will give coordinates in case of emergencies. The connectivity includes GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, Wi-Fi assisted positioning, and real-time position reporting. It is IP68 water and dust resistant. The pricing and availability details are still not available.
