Huawei is apparently getting ready to unveil its Mate 80 series on November 25, and it has already shared a couple of teaser videos. What I intend to do here is just to simplify the whole thing because the rumor about the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max is so loud, and in fact, the teasers show quite clearly what Huawei is planning to do with this phone.
Durability takes the spotlight in early teasers
By the time we see the first teaser, Huawei literally throws the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max into some pretty extreme scenarios. I mean what they show is water jet streams at full throttle and dust hitting the device. The whole thing seems like Huawei wants to demonstrate that the device, aside from being a high-end product, is also suitable for tough conditions.
According to the things they demonstrate, the handset is capable of handling the water pressure that is usually used in a splash test, which is a signal of a very high durability rating level. This basically communicates to me that they are aiming the device at those users who are in constant outdoor use of the phone or just those consumers who demand a product that will not let them down even if the situation gets messy.
Camera teaser focuses on image quality, not hardware specs
The second teaser is all about the camera, however, not in a hardware-spec manner. To the contrary, Huawei concentrates on the end image, and they even come up with a new term for the imaging technology — second generation Red Maple.
What they want to say is that the pictures taken are being processed in a much more sophisticated way. Huawei displays some examples with more brilliant colors, more precise details and wider dynamic range. The company has been giving hints to major camera improvements for quite some time now, so it seems that this is the biggest upgrade on the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max.

Outdoor mode promises up to 14 days of battery life
Also, Huawei had already revealed another feature of the new Outdoor Mode before. They assert that by turning on this mode, the battery life for the Mate 80 series can be extended to 14 days. Certainly, this is only under very limited types of usage such as basic connectivity and emergency operations. But anyway, even with all those restrictions, the number 14 is still huge.
It is quite obvious that Huawei wants to set the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max as an authentic outdoor-friendly smartphone. A thing for hiking, camping, or long trips when charging your phone every day is not an option.
Overall, with the launch date set for November 25, it seems like Huawei is staging one of their most powerful flagship units in quite a while. Among other things, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max appears to meld ruggedness, a fresh imaging pipeline and a battery feature tailor-made for extended outdoor usage. Now the question remains as to what the full specification will be when Huawei officially makes the announcement.
