Huawei Mate XT tri-fold is finally out globally, as promised. Dubbed the first-ever tri-fold smartphone, it was initially introduced in China and has now made its global debut with top-notch specifications. Here’s what you should know before you ask a friend to get you a unit from overseas!
Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold Smartphone Folds Thrice, duh!
Don’t get me wrong, but Huawei named its latest phone the Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold Ultimate Design simply because it folds three times. Turns out, it’s true—and it seems fitting, right?
Well, the phone folds both inwards and outwards in a Z-shaped pattern, thanks to a sophisticated dual-hinge mechanism featuring 26 precision cams. When combined, these components boast a strength of 1900 MPa, allowing the phone to fold three times. This design delivers a massive tablet-like display when fully unfolded.
When folded, the phone seamlessly transforms into a compact form, resembling three phones stacked together without any gaps in between.
According to Huawei, the Mate XT utilizes an ‘Advanced Precision Hinge System’ to enable its intricate folding mechanism. The display incorporates multi-directional flexible materials, which are designed to bend seamlessly and offer 25% greater resistance compared to other foldable screens on the market.
The phone features an ultra-touch laminated structure paired with the largest UTG glass, which enhances resistance and protection against falls and scratches, making the tri-fold phone more durable.
Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold Ultimate Design Specifications
When it comes to the specs, the display measures 10.2 inches when fully unfolded. When folded, the single screen is 6.4 inches, while the dual-screen setup measures 7.9 inches. Huawei uses OLED panels with 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch-sampling rate. This 3K ultra-high resolution display delivers clearer and more vivid visuals.
On the performance side, the device features a Kirin 9010 5G SoC paired with 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM, running EMUI 14.2 out of the box. The camera setup includes an 8MP selfie camera and a triple rear system comprising a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and variable aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP periscope telephoto sensor with 5.5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom.
On the battery front, the device packs a 5,600mAh battery with a 1.9mm thickness, making it the thinnest ever on a foldable phone. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing users to power up their device at remarkable speeds.
Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold Now Available Globally
The Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold is now available for pre-order in Dubai at AED 12,999 via Huawei’s Store and selected retailers. Buyers will also receive a one-time screen protection package worth AED 2,599, along with additional freebies.
In Malaysia, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is priced at RM 14,999 (approximately USD 3,370) and goes on sale on March 15. In Europe, the 16GB+1TB variant is available for USD 3,660. Buyers can also take advantage of exclusive launch offers with their purchase.
