  • Seems like iPhone 17 Pro series is getting caught up in yet another controversary.
  • Apparently, users have been noticing fading of colors on-board the camera island and side frame across both iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
  • Cosmic Orange is magically turning into rose gold and there's a Deep Blue variant fading too.

You saw and loved the all-new Cosmic Orange colorways on-board the iPhone 17 Pro series. Turns out there’s a bit of controversy surrounding the devices aptly dubbed as ‘colorgate’. Here’s more about the situation, and this one is turning worse as it progresses.

iPhone 17 Pro colorgate raises concerns over fading colors

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max were released in all-new colorways, i.e., Cosmic Orange and a subtle Deep Blue. Turns out the former colorway got the most hits as the shipment dates increased from a few days to weeks. In any case, the current situation says that the cosmic orange colorways on board the 17 Pro series are turning rose gold (or simply put, pink), or I would say, it is getting decolorized. If it were just one color, I would have understood, but reports suggest the same decolorization is happening on Deep Blue colored units as well.

The photos, as spotted on Reddit initially, and now across the major tech publications, show decolorization happening mostly on the ginormous camera island before spreading towards the side frame. If you check out the phone, it seems like you bought a limited edition ‘rose gold’ iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and there’s no explanation as to why it’s happening.

Some users suggest it could be happening because of the UV light the phone is exposed to. Both iPhone 17 series models have been anodized with Deep Blue and Cosmic Orange colorways. The process may not have been performed properly, as we have seen reports on the scratches these back panels can pick up with minimal use.

Funny enough, people have started tagging this issue as ‘colorgate’ after Apple has been tagged with multiple gates over the years, such as bendgate, scratchgate, antennagate, to name a few.

Watch out for this space as we gather more intel on where this issue is isolated or happening across the board.
