Apple is testing a new deep red finish for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. If released, it would be the first time a Pro iPhone comes in red. The launch could make the iPhone 18 Pro color lineup more varied than in previous years.
Deep red could join iPhone 18 Pro colors
In his “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple is considering a deep red color for the iPhone 18 Pro models. The shade is expected to look more like burgundy than bright red.
Apple has offered red iPhones before, including the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus under the (PRODUCT)RED brand. However, the company has never released a red version of its Pro or Pro Max models. If Apple moves forward with this plan, the iPhone 18 Pro would be the first Pro model available in red.
Purple and brown may not launch
Earlier rumors suggested Apple was testing purple and brown finishes. However, Gurman believes those colors are likely variations of the same red concept. He noted that the tones are similar, meaning Apple may not release them as separate options.
As always, Apple tests several colors before choosing the final lineup, so changes are possible before launch.

Gurman also reported that Apple’s foldable iPhone will likely avoid bold colors. Instead, Apple is expected to offer classic finishes such as space gray or black and silver or white.
Expected September announcement
Usually, Apple launches new iPhones in September. Although the company has not confirmed any details, reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone could be unveiled then.
For now, the deep red option remains under testing. More details about the final iPhone 18 Pro colors should become clear closer to launch.
