  • Apple is likely to reduce the size of its Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro series.
  • This means iPhone 18 Pro will get a ~35% reduced Dynamic Island compared to iPhone 17 Pro.
  • For this, Apple allegedly moved Face ID' flood illuminator sensor under the screen and using sophisticated software to ensure content is display on that section when needed.

After much discussion, it would be great to see iPhone 18 Pro (and Pro Max) make some cosmetic changes, after all. Turns out we could expect one for sure. According to the latest update, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could find itself amid an upgraded display and a smaller Dynamic Island, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island might be reduced this time

According to Ice Universe on X, whose reputation surely precedes him, iPhone 18 Pro models, i.e., both the Pro and Pro Max, will see a smaller Dynamic Island cutout at 13.49mm in width. Comparatively, iPhone 17 Pro has a 20.76mm wide island, which means almost a 35% reduction in size.

The tipster even posted a photo showing the reduced size, although we aren’t actually buying the leaked photo story. The thing is, the tipped photo shows a slightly off-center Dynamic Island cutout. Even though Apple launches features and changes on its iPhones later than any other smartphone maker, it does pay close attention to symmetry. Having an off-center Dynamic Island would mean Apple is compromising on its symmetry, and that’s unlikely to happen.

In any case, news of a reduced Dynamic Island has been around for ages. Eventually, the size would come down as many sensors take refuge under the screen, such as the Face ID. This is because unless some sensors land their heads under the display, Apple might not be able to reduce the size of its Dynamic Island, and this could be a part of it. The latest buzz says Apple’s Face ID flood illuminator might be the sensor that has moved under the screen. This is perhaps how the Cupertino giant was able to reduce the size of its dynamic island quite drastically.

The alleged iPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island looks amazing, though. I mean, Apple would be able to squeeze in more information on the island and eventually add this as a selling trait when the iPhone 18 Pro series actually shows up later this year.

iPhone 18 Pro release date

In any case, Apple is debuting the iPhone 18 Pro series in September this year, followed by the iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2, among other non-Pro phones, in early 2027.
