The iPhone Ultra is delayed again. If true, this could put the first-ever foldable iPhone into a staggered launch schedule, potentially breaking it from the iPhone 18 Pro series. Here’s what the latest development has in store for us.
iPhone Ultra launch delayed again due to final adjustments
According to the folks at DigiTimes, the Chinese bigwig that manufactures iPhones, “Foxconn,” is facing certain manufacturing issues with the iPhone Ultra. Two of the most crucial components—the durability of the folding display and the hinge—are undergoing final adjustments as part of their manufacturing process.
Although production started in July, the refinement is usually the part where manufacturers retouch their processes to make a larger volume of units. In this case, we are talking about the almost $2,000 iPhone Ultra. The thing about such adjustments is that there’s no fixed timeline, which means we don’t have clarity on exactly when Foxconn will be able to fix it before minting more units.
If it resolves soon, we can have an unusual launch for the iPhone Ultra alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, something around September 8 or 9. If not, Apple will enter another round of staggered launch where, although the trio debuts on the aforementioned dates, the availability of the iPhone Ultra will be sometime in October or November. This isn’t the first time, and thus the precedent is already set, and the Cupertino-based giant could deploy it rather than hurrying up manufacturing of Ultra units, possibly leading to poor quality.
Typically, Apple issues production targets for its manufacturers when there’s a new iPhone in the market, and iPhone Ultra is no different. However, given Apple could limit the initial production of Ultra by 500K to 1 million units in Q3 2026, we could face shortage issues even if the phone arrives on the aforementioned date due to strong demand and poor supply.
