According to the company, the app’s identity represents boundless entertainment, symbolized by the ‘Big Bang’, which marks the beginning of a new era, and the ‘Ripples’, which depict energy, transformation, and innovation.

In February 2023, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Viacom18, and Disney announced a joint venture. The deal aims to combine Viacom18 and Star India, valued at ₹70,352 crore (approximately $8.5 billion). The transaction was successfully completed in November 2024, paving the way for the launch of JioHotstar.

A one-stop destination for global and Indian content

JioHotstar offers a comprehensive content library, bringing together the best of Hollywood and Indian entertainment. The platform will feature content from major global studios, including:

  • Disney
  • NBCUniversal Peacock
  • Warner Bros. Discovery HBO
  • Paramount

‘Sparks’ a platform for digital creators

JioHotstar has also launched ‘Sparks’, which is a flagship program that seeks to highlight India’s largest digital creators. The platform intends to provide creative and interactive formats to promote the creator economy in India.

  • ₹499 for 1 year

Super Plan (Ad-supported)

  • ₹299 for 3 months
  • ₹899 for 1 year
  • Full HD (1080p) streaming on two devices (mobile/desktop/TV)

Premium Plan (Ad-free, except for live content)

  • ₹299 per month (available via web browser only)
  • ₹499 for 3 months
  • ₹1,499 for 1 year
  • 4K streaming on four devices (mobile/desktop/TV)

What happens to existing JioCinema subscribers?

If you are a JioCinema subscriber, you will automatically receive a JioHotstar Premium subscription for the same duration as your current JioCinema plan. However, JioCinema subscriptions will not be renewed from February 15, 2025.

After your JioCinema subscription expires, you will have the option to choose from the JioHotstar plans. If you currently have both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar subscriptions, you will get JioHotstar Premium for the same duration as your JioCinema subscription, while your Disney+ Hotstar subscription will continue as usual.
