Lava Z50 with Android Oreo (Go Edition) to launch in March

Lava has announced its latest smartphone the Lava Z50 for India running Android Oreo 8.1 (Go Edition). This version of Android is optimised such that it provides a smoother experience on smartphones with less than 1GB of RAM. The Lava Z50 will go on sale by mid-March, which is when it will be available via 100,000 retail stores. It will come in Black and Gold colours and is aimed at first time smartphone users who are upgrading from feature phones. The handset was showcased at ongoing MWC 2018 and comes soon after Alcatel unveiled the world’s first smartphone running Android Oreo (Go Edition) along with the Nokia 1 that, too, was launched under the Android Go program.

The company has confirmed that the phone will come with a 2-year warranty and will be bundled with a Rs. 2,000 cashback offer from Airtel as well. As a special launch offer, the company is offering a free one-time screen replacement if the device’s screen breaks within one year from the date of purchase.

In terms of specifications, the Z50 runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) as already mentioned, and sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480 x 854 pixels) display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. It is powered by the Mediatek MT6737m quad-core processor clocked at 1.1 GHz and features 1GB of RAM coupled with 8GB of internal storage. The smartphone is equipped with a 5MP sensor on both the front and rear along with a flash and it can capture bokeh shots as well. The handset is pre-loaded with optimised Google apps, like YouTube Go, which lets you download, watch, and share videos while controlling your data usage. It further comes with support for search in ten major Indian languages including Hindi.

Airtel also announced that it has partnered with Google to bring low-cost smartphones powered by Android Oreo (Go edition) to the Indian market. Micromax is also expected to introduce Micromax Bharat Go smartphone powered by Android Oreo (Go edition) in partnership with Airtel. The phones will be launched under Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ program starting March 2018. These will also come pre-loaded with compatible Airtel apps, including My Airtel App, Airtel TV and  Wynk Music.
