Lenovo Legion 2 Pro is a high-octane gaming phone with Snapdragon 888 SoC under the hood. Turns out it is likely to get a successor that will have a Snapdragon 898 chipset under the hood. This comes from Lenovo’s GM who said that the next-gen Legion device with the new chipset will have an upgraded GPU performance.

According to Lenovo’s GM Chen Jin, the next-generation Lenovo Legion 3 Pro will be integrated with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898 (SM8450) and it will have a higher GPU performance. As of now, it is unclear that the new chipset will be named Snapdragon 898 or 895 although it will have a model number SM8450. It’s performance is about 20 percent better than the predecessor.

The upcoming chipset which hasn’t been revealed yet, will be built on a 4nm node and will have Kryo 730 cores based on ARM v9 instruction set. The CPU will be flanked by a Adreno 730 GPU under the hood. It will arrive with a Snapdragon X65 modem housing both millimeter and sub-6GHz 5G bands.

The Legion 3 Pro which is known as Duel 3 outside China will have an active cooling system to keep the chipset at a breezy temperature and churn at its top-tuned performance.

Legion 3 Pro will be a successor to Legion 2 Pro. To put things into perspective, the latter sports an 6.92-inch AMOLED 144Hz HDR10+ FHD+ panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The device packs in a Snapdragon 888 5G chipset along with Adreno 660 GPU, upto 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage and up to 18GB of RAM. It runs on Android 11-backed Legion OS as its software.

There’s a dual 64MP+16MP camera setup capable of shooting videos at 8K@24fps along with a motorized pop-up 44MP selfie shooter which is capped at 4K@60fps. Connectivity features such as Bluetooth v5.2 (with LE and A2DP), dual-band Wi-Fi 6, NFC, dual-band GPS, and two USB Type-C ports.

A beefy 5,500 mAh battery is under the hood with 65W and 90W fast charging speed support on-board.

Legion 3 Pro is likely to improve overall specifications and not just the chipset and as per reports, it could arrive this winter although take it with a pinch of salt.
