We’re already aware of the fact that Meizu is working on two brand new smartphones – Meizu X8 and Meizu 16. Meizu X8 is the mid-budget smartphone which according to the brand will directly compete with Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. The Meizu 16, on the other hand, is on the flagship segment being the premium offering.
Meizu 16 has been in the news for a long time and most of the details were revealed by the brand’s CEO itself on the community forum. Same goes for the Meizu X8 except the fact that there is not much information actually. The top executive recently confirmed that the brand is working on Meizu X8 and claimed that it is much better than the already launched Xiaomi Mi 8 SE in many aspects.
Meizu X8 live images leaked, to come with Snapdragon 710 SoC
A Weibo leakster, today, leaked a live image of the device showing the about section. According to him, this is the pre-production unit which means the official launch might not be that close. If you look at the image closely, you will notice the smaller notch on the top. Some might argue the camera angle but still, the bezels are minimum. The notch looks pretty similar to the rival Xiaomi Mi 8 SE.
When the CEO claimed that Meizu X8 will be far better than the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, he didn’t really reveal anything about how but now it seems like both the device will share higher screen-to-body ratio. Another aspect shared by the image is that the device will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset which is quite powerful. Xiaomi’s offering also comes with the very same processor. In addition, the smartphone will run on the latest version of the Android i.e. Android 8.1 Oreo. Unfortunately, this leak doesn’t tell us anything else about the device.
Since this device, as per the claims, is going to be better than the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, then there has to be a bump in the specifications. Earlier, a Meizu smartphone with a model number M816Q was spotted online which might be the device which we’re talking about right now. According to rumors, the smartphone will not boast an in-display fingerprint sensor which is acceptable since this is the budget device. In terms of optics, the smartphone will come with a dual camera setup at the back having a 20MP primary sensor. Again, they are just rumors so it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
In terms of pricing, the device will be priced under RMB 2,000 as revealed by the CEO himself. Indian launch is very less likely since the brand is not targetting Indian consumers as of now. As mentioned above, the brand is also working on a flagship smartphone to be known as Meizu 16. The flagship offering will be priced somewhere around RMD 4,000. Meizu 16 will make its way into the Chinese market on August 26. There is a little chance that this budget Meizu X8 might also get announced alongside with it.
