Meta has officially released the Meta AI app, giving users a fresh interface to interact with its AI assistant driven by Llama 4 model. Available now on both iOS and Android, the app works to connect AI more effectively, make it more social and personal, and more accessible, following Meta’s overall initiatives to integrate AI throughout its platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Voice conversations take center stage
With the Meta AI app, voice is an integral part of the experience. Meta has incorporated full-duplex speech technology within it so that voice interactions can be more natural and conversational. Unlike normal AI voice assistants that recite prewritten text, the Meta AI app produces speech dynamically as per conversational dialogue.
According to Meta, the full-duplex feature is currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Users can easily toggle this demo on or off within the app settings. However, Meta cautions that this early version may present technical inconsistencies as it continues to gather feedback to refine the experience.
Enhanced personalization with Llama 4
Developed using the Llama 4 model, Meta AI is able to recall user preferences, provide contextually accurate responses, and connect users with people, content, and recommendations that matter to them. The assistant can even access public web content to respond to questions, helping users to get deeper into a subject or grab fast information.
In the U.S. and Canada, Meta AI can personalize answers based on the information users have shared across Facebook and Instagram via the Accounts Center. This enables the assistant to provide a more tailored experience while maintaining user control over privacy settings.
Integrated features across devices
The Meta AI app consolidates several AI experiences into one place. Notably, it now merges with the Meta View companion app for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This integration allows users to start a conversation on their glasses and continue it on the app or web via a synced history tab, although conversations cannot be initiated on the app and continued on the glasses.
Meta AI on the web also got a refresh with a more desktop-like design, new voice interaction features, and an enhanced image creation tool. Meta also began testing a document editor that allows users in some regions to export and create rich text and image documents as PDFs.
A new Discover feed to inspire creativity
The Meta AI app introduces a Discover feed, where users can explore and share prompts and AI-generated content. This feature highlights community creativity while giving users full control over what is shared publicly. According to Meta, nothing appears in the feed unless a user chooses to post it.
The Discover feed and the app’s conversation starters are designed to make it easier for users to explore the assistant’s capabilities, whether they seek practical help or simply want to experiment.
Meta AI: Designed for convenience and control
Meta emphasized that voice interaction is meant to be intuitive and seamless. The app includes a “Ready to talk” setting, allowing users to activate voice features by default if desired. A visible microphone icon indicates when the voice assistant is active, enhancing transparency.
Meta’s broader vision for AI, shaped by years of personalization work across its platforms, aims to deliver a more natural and helpful assistant experience that can adapt to user preferences over time.
Meta AI app availability
The release of the Meta AI app represents an important step towards bringing personal AI and integrating it more into everyday life. As Meta continues to learn and improve its AI products from user input, the standalone app gives us a glimpse into what the future of voice-activated, personalized assistance will look like. The Meta AI app can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android devices.
