We know that there is a lot of they and anticipation around the fact that we are going to see a lot of foldable smartphones in the next half of this year along with 5G support. However, the COVID-19 outbreak has come at the worst possible time for the foldable technology since it has been delayed. Last year, Microsoft unveiled two new devices in its lineup but said that they will come in 2020. These two new devices were the Surface Duo that runs on Android whereas the other one was Surface Neo that is a tablet PC running on Windows 10.
The interesting part about these devices is that they are dual-screen devices and not a foldable. But we have some bad news regarding one of these devices which is that Surface Neo PC will not come later this year. Surface Neo was announced as a Windows 10 tablet that can almost turn into a laptop when the second screen is opened. Now, Microsoft hasn’t announced anything regarding the delay in Surface Neo but a person familiar with the matter told this to CNN.
It is reported that Microsoft is focusing on Windows 10x for single-screen devices right now. There is, however, no word about the Surface Duo from Microsoft which will run on Google’s Android OS. But it is also seen that many Microsoft executives are testing the dual-screen device at their home and one of the first images captured by this device was also shared recently. This does tell us that the plans for Microsoft Surface Duo remain as they were last year.
While the report mentions that Microsoft has freezer development of Windows 10x for dual-screen devices to focus on single-screen devices, we do wonder if the delay is caused by issues in the production of the bigger tablet-sized device as well. It is quite possible that the device, similar to other projects from various companies, might have been delayed due to production issues in China and the uncertainty regarding lockdown and virus threat.
