Following the frequent updates for the Samsung Galaxy S8, the company just started rolling out a security patch that also brings an update to the navigation bar settings.
According to SamMobile, the new update removes the option of choosing RGB colors for the navigation bars and instead comes with a palette of light shade colors. This not only restricts users from picking colors from the extensive collection but also won’t allow us to use the pure black navigation bar. The black navigation bar is defaulted on most phones and is the go-to choice for people, which is why this is bad news for a lot of Samsung users. We are not quite clear why Samsung changed this option, but it possibly has something to do with burn-in issues.
The black pixels in OLED displays don’t turn on which in turn gives this really pitch black look, and in a way, it also helps preserve your phone’s battery life. The disadvantage of this, however, is that the non-black pixels degrade faster. The worst that could happen is that certain parts of the screen will start getting lighter than the rest which is known as ‘burn-in’. This sole purpose of this update might have as a precaution for this issue.
There is also an option in the new settings which allows you to completely hide the navigation bar from the screen with a simple button at the left of the bar.
