Nothing Phone (2a) Goes Official in India: Specs & Beyond
Design
We saw a few different renders of Nothing Phone (2a) a few days ago and turns out one of them was true after all.
Nothing Phone (2a) uses a dual horizontally-aligned camera setup at the dead-center with three LEDs spread around the rear camera assembly. The phone still retains some degree of transparent back panel which is a good thing. On the front, we have a flat display with minimal bezels and a centrally-placed tiny punch-hole cut-out.
As usual, the sides are flat much alike iPhones that should aid usability and grip.
Display
Talking about the specs, the phone uses an AMOLED 6.7” flexible FHD+ display with a 30-120Hz refresh rate. It uses a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. Moreover, the display lights up at 1300 nits of peak and 700 nits of typical brightness. Of course, Nothing had to cut corners to meet the pricing strategy which is the LTPO in this case that we saw with Phone (2).
Processor
Moving on, we have the processor under the hood. The phone uses a Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC, a custom-made for Phone (2a). It is clocked at 2.28GHz max frequency paired with Mali-G610 MC4 GPU. This is another area where Nothing toned down the specs from Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (on Phone 2) to Dimensity 7200 Pro which reflects on the performance as well.
But if you are on a tight budget, the processor still somewhat outpaces the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 line of chipsets. Overall, the phone was snappy in use which is, in the end, important.
Nothing has retained the Glyph interface, a staple of Nothing phones. It uses three LED strips located on the top portion of the back panel with 24 addressable zones that can be programmed.
Camera
On the optics front, Nothing uses a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary camera with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide snapper. On the front, we have a 32MP selfie camera. Overall, the camera setup is decent and must get you through the day, however, don’t expect it to be pro in photography since it isn’t. I would prefer daytime photography over nighttime thanks to the availability of lots of lights that translate into better performance.
Battery
I would say the battery pack is where Nothing Phone (2a) has gained the upper hand. It is at 5,000mAh compared to Phone (2)’s 4,700mAh battery. The difference may not be too drastic, however, given the fact that every inch of a battery counts, we would give Phone (2a) a few extra points for a larger battery. It comes with 45W wired charging with no wireless charging in the mix.
Other Features
Other features include NFC, Bluetooth v5.3, Wi-Fi 6, USB-C 2.0, an under-the-display optical fingerprint scanner, a stereo speaker, and GPS.
