OnePlus has a few concepts to its name, be it the OnePlus Concept One that was revealed last year with an electrochromic glass that would hide the rear cameras when not needed. OnePlus has just received another patent for a new design from the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) that was granted in June 2021 for a “camera module and electronic equipment”.

LetsGoDigital and Parvez Khan (Technizo Concept) have to build 3D renders of the upcoming OnePlus 11 Pro with a rotating camera. According to the documents, the rear camera systems can rotate about 180° which opens up new avenues for shooting on a smartphone.

The patent documents show that the single rear camera will use magnets to turn about on its axis. It is similar to how one would use a mirrorless camera with a tilting screen as it makes it super easy to shoot even at difficult angles. The report further reads that users can actually rotate videos and images in post-production giving it new effects using software algorithms although that remains to be seen.

Patent documents denote the use of the new magnetically rotating camera rig as an optical image stabilization (OIS) application as well. In fact, OnePlus has mentioned that it will create a rotating video recording mode that goes with this newly designed hardware.

OnePlus 11 Pro is slated to arrive early next year as we just saw the launch on the OnePlus 10 Pro. The camera rig also shows a single camera which is opposed to what OnePlus 10 Pro offers i.e. a triple rear camera. However, patents don’t always translate into real-life devices and can be merely used for safeguarding intellectual property for years to come.
