The second-gen Nord CE is here and it is powered by 5G. I am talking about the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G that made its debut in India on February 17 at 7 pm along with the OnePlus TV Y1S series. The device brings a lot to the table along with a new chipset, enhanced camera, and design among others. Here’s everything you need to know about OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Color, Pricing, and Availability
There are two color variants available, the first is called Bahama Blue and that has been heavily leaked. Another one is called Gray Mirror and it’s look good as well.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G arrives in two storage trims with a price tag starting at Rs 23,999/- for the base 6GB+128GB while the higher 8GB+128GB variant goes on sale at Rs 25,999/-. Interestingly, OnePlus has used a microSD card slot with an expandability of up to 1TB so that’s great.
Both the variants will go on sale on February 22 in India through OnePlus’ website, Amazon India, and a tonne of other online retailers. The date for sale in the European markets is March 10.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Design
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G screams “premium” even though its price tag says otherwise. The phone brings onboard a punch-hole cutout on the top-left corner with relatively thinner bezels but with a thick chin. Nord CE 2 5G has a plastic build with a glossy finish to it.
At the back, the camera bump raises a bit above the back panel while the groove around the camera sensors is reached up a bit as well. It basically offers a two-step design but, to be honest, it looks good with a hue-colored back panel which can be termed as glasstic. OnePlus hasn’t reported any official IP rating with the phone but it does come with a few ways to tackle it such as using rubber gaskets around the SIM tray.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Display
The phone hasn’t changed the display size and a few other specs as much. It still offers a 6.43-inch AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and the same 409PPI as the predecessor (~410PPI). The STB ratio has improved to 85.1% from 84.9% on Nord CE 5G. Everything else remains unchanged. There’s FHD+ resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top that prevents it from shattering or scratching easily.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Processor
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G arrives with a Dimensity 900 SoC along with 5G capabilities. It is clocked at 2.4GHz max frequency and has a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU on-board. There are two RAM variants i.e. 6GB and 8GB while the internal storage is a single 128GB but expandable up to 1TB thanks to a dedicated microSD slot which is amazing. The Nord CE 5G didn’t have microSD card storage so if you waited for Nord CE 2 5G, you are in for a treat.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Software
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G packs in OxygenOS 11 UI which is based on Android 11.3. It is scheduled to get two major Android OS upgrades which means you are pretty much covered for OxygenOS 12 (based on Android 12) and OxygenOS 13 (based on Android 13) unless changed with a unified ColorOS iteration.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Camera
There have been some changes with the camera app as expected. With that, we now get a 16MP front-facing camera instead of a 32MP shooter as on the Nord 2.
The rear camera assembly has seen a lot of cosmetic changes. You’ll get a 64MP primary shooter with f/1.7 aperture along with 8MP ultrawide with f/2.2 and finally, there’s a 2MP macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Battery
As one could tell, OnePlus already confirmed having a 65W SuperVOOC onboard OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G so it is available. The battery pack onboard is a 4500 dual-cell battery which reportedly takes around 45 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. A mere 15 minutes of charge takes the battery to almost half the full mark.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: Other Specifications
There is a myriad of other specs that you should know about the Nord CE 2 5G. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack onboard even though OnePlus has made the phone a bit slimmer than the previous Nord CE. Along with that, you get a single bottom-firing loudspeaker, dual-band WiFi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS, and NFC. Thanks to the AMOLED panel, you will get an under-the-display optical fingerprint scanner. There’s reverse charging capability too.
