OnePlus releases Android Q Developer Preview 4 for OnePlus 6, 6T, 7 & 7 Pro

After OnePlus released the third developer preview for Android Q two weeks ago, the folks at Chinese smartphone giant OnePlus have released the fourth developer preview (DP4) for OnePlus 6, 6T, 7, and 7 Pro. Although the changelog didn’t specify much of the information, the OnePlus users will have to certain lagging and stability issues although the system has been improved and optimized when compared to the DP3 version.

According to the changelog, the users might face lagging and stability issues as said while application compatibility problems can be a problem too. Furthermore, Google Pay can’t work or may not work on Android Q DP4 on OnePlus devices. Finally, the FOD doesn’t light up on its own and thus, requires the user to press the power button in advance and then place the fingers on the FOD to unlock the phone which is applicable on OnePlus 6T and above.

How to Install Android Q Developer Preview 4 (DP4) on OnePlus devices?

Here’s a step-by-step procedure on how you can proceed with downloading and installing the new DP4 on your OnePlus devices. For any additional help, you can visit OnePlus forums for more information.
Step 01: Download the Android Q DP4 build from OnePlus Forum.
Step 02: Go to the Settings app and proceed to System >> System Updates.
Step 03: Tap on the gear icon and proceed to ‘Local Upgrade’.
Step 04: Select ‘Update file’ that you need to search and upload if downloaded on the phone or transfer the file from PC to phone if downloaded on a PC.
Step 05: After selecting the file, click on ‘Install Now’.
Step 06: It would take a few minutes to install and ensure that you have at least 30% of the battery to sustain the upgrade.
Step 07: Reboot or let the system reboot itself so that the changes can take place effectively.

Note that this method is to proceed from stable update or developer preview 3 to DP4. For those who want to roll back to the previous stable version i.e. Android Pie 9.0, they can check out the said procedure on OnePlus Forums. Note that OnePlus hasn’t officially announced the DP4 for Android Q on OnePlus devices yet although the Forum has multiple links towards the download file.
