Oppo Find N5: The World’s Thinnest Foldable Phone Announced

Looks like we are in the endgame now! The world’s thinnest foldable phone, aka the Oppo Find N5, is officially launched. At just 4.21mm, the Find N5 is incredibly slim, yet Oppo has maintained the highest degree of durability without compromising functionality. When closed, the phone is almost half a millimeter thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max—so yes, you know just how slim we’re talking about. The Thinnest Foldable Phone Yet – A True Engineering Feat

Without any further ado, let’s talk about the USP here. The Oppo Find N5 has been launched as the world’s thinnest foldable phone, measuring just 4.21mm when open and 8.93mm when closed. While the Huawei Mate XT stands at 3.6mm, it’s physically thicker when stacked in a Z-shaped pattern with three display halves.

The Chinese smartphone maker revealed that they had to customize the USB-C port to fit within the ultra-thin frame. We suspect USB-C might eventually disappear for a while as smartphones continue to get slimmer each year.

The Hinge Evolution – Oppo Goes Next Level

Moving on from thickness to the hinge, the Oppo Find N5 features what Oppo calls the Titanium Flexin Hinge. According to the company, the hinge is 26% smaller than that of the Find N3 and is 3D-printed using a blend of carbon fiber and titanium, making it significantly more durable than previous iterations.

The phone itself is built to last, thanks to its 7000-series aluminum frame and a nanocrystal glass layer that enhances durability. Notably, the device boasts IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 water resistance ratings—a first for a foldable phone.

Oppo demonstrated the Find N5’s durability by suspending several kilograms of dumbbells across the center of the unfolded device for a full two hours during a pre-launch briefing. If that’s not durability, I don’t know what is.

A Display That Wows

I must say, Oppo took a lot into consideration when designing the Find N5. It’s undoubtedly a well-crafted phone with a massive display. The inner foldable screen is an 8.12-inch LTPO OLED panel with an FHD+ resolution, a 9.9:9 aspect ratio, a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and up to 2,100 nits of peak brightness.

The best thing about the display? There are no visible creases. I compared it with other recently launched foldables, including the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Honor Magic V3, and the Find N5 had the least noticeable creases. I mean, they’re there—you can spot them when holding the phone against sunlight—but you won’t feel any groove. Creases might develop over time with prolonged use, but for now, nothing is set in stone.

The Secondary Display – Not the Brightest, But Still Solid

Moving on to the secondary display, the Find N5 features a 6.62-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It offers a peak brightness of 2,450 nits, which is slightly lower than some competitors, but it’s not a dealbreaker. With ample screen real estate for an immersive experience, there’s really nothing to complain about.

Performance – The First Foldable with Snapdragon 8 Elite

On the hardware side, the Find N5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, making it the first foldable phone to feature this chipset. It ensures seamless performance, effortlessly handling even the most demanding applications. Internationally, the device is available in a single 16GB+512GB variant, while the Chinese market gets additional configurations.

Software and AI Features

The Find N5 runs on Android 15-based ColorOS 15, with Oppo guaranteeing four years of major Android upgrades and six years of security patches. This makes it a solid long-term investment, especially given its premium price. ColorOS also brings a suite of AI-powered features, including text generation, translations, and call summarization, among others.

Cameras – Mostly Great, but One Letdown

The Oppo Find N5 delivers above-average camera performance. On the specs side, it features a 50MP LYT-700 primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP 70mm equivalent Samsung JN5 periscope lens with 3x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide shooter.

The first two sensors deliver commendable performance, capturing plenty of details with clean post-processing. However, the ultrawide snapper falls short, as its smaller size results in fewer details compared to the other rear cameras on the Find N5.

Overall, the ultrawide sensor might struggle to compete with rivals, but the other two cameras have a strong chance of standing out. On the front, the Find N5 features dual 8MP selfie cameras. They perform well for their purpose, handling video calls, selfies, and more without missing a beat.

Battery – The Real Star of the Show

While the processor, display, and camera play a crucial role in defining a phone’s quality, they aren’t the only factors. In the case of the Find N5, its battery pack truly steals the show.

The Find N5 packs a 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery, which, when held, feels like a few stacks of paper glued together. Oppo has managed to fit a surprisingly high-capacity battery into a compact design, ensuring all-day endurance with ease.

The Find N5 supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging, ensuring a fast and efficient power-up. Additionally, it offers 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging for added convenience. To maintain its ultra-thin profile, Oppo had to make some tweaks to the USB-C port before integrating it into the device.

Oppo Find N5: Pricing and Availability 

As for pricing, the world’s thinnest foldable phone, the Oppo Find N5, is available for SGD 2,499, approximately EUR 1,799 or USD 1,867. Pre-orders are now open, with shipping set to begin on February 28. The device comes in two color options: Misty White and Cosmic Black.

There’s also a third color variant, ‘Dusk Purple,’ but it remains exclusive to China and may not launch globally. Unfortunately, the Find N5 is not available in the US—at least for now. However, the OnePlus Open 2 might make its way to American shores, though there’s no official confirmation yet.
