The highly anticipated OnePlus Watch 2 features Wear OS and is getting closer to making its official debut, and this new information from the parent company Oppo, confirms several key details about its operating system. OnePlus has not yet released an official statement, but all signs suggest that the OnePlus Watch 2 will use Google’s Wear OS platform.
OnePlus Watch 2 to Feature Google’s Wear OS
Oppo’s announcement of the Oppo Watch X (their next smartwatch), confirms this change. The unique button arrangement and band design of the Oppo Watch X bear a strong resemblance to images of the OnePlus Watch 2 that have leaked.
Another Oppo official announcement sheds light on more important information—showing “Wear OS by Google” logo prominently in the teaser image of the Oppo Watch X. It also lists Android 8.0 as a minimum requirement.
There is little room for doubt about Wear OS given this clear confirmation on a device that looks a lot like the OnePlus Watch 2. This announcement represents a major change for OnePlus wearables. With Wear OS, the OnePlus Watch 2 is expected to have more features and app support than its predecessor, which launched in 2021 and ran on a proprietary operating system (RTOS).
Making the switch to Wear OS gives users access to a huge selection of features and apps, such as well-liked fitness trackers, messaging apps, and interchangeable watch faces. Additionally, Wear OS improves the user experience overall by providing deeper integration with Google services like Assistant and Google Fit.
According to rumors, the OnePlus Watch 2 will have a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with a 466 x 466 pixel resolution. Equipped with a 500mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, the device should have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS connectivity capabilities.
Although the Watch 2 may be revealed around the same time as the Oppo Watch X, perhaps at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) event, OnePlus has not yet made an official announcement about it.
Overall, for OnePlus, the release of Wear OS signifies a major advancement in the smartwatch space. With easy integration with Google services, access to a wider selection of apps, and anticipated performance enhancements, the OnePlus Watch 2 is poised to deliver an enhanced user experience compared to its predecessor.
