  • Qualcomm launches a mid-range chipset under it's Series 7 line-up dubbed as Snapdragon 7s Gen 4.
  • A successor to Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, the chipset offers 7% better CPU and GPU performance, as quoted.
  • Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 may not be beyond ones expectation as Qualcomm keeps its mid-range and budget chipsets in slight variation in terms of performance compared to its flagship counterparts.

Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 7s Gen4, the successor to the Snapdragon 7s Gen3. The new chipset, model number SM7750-AB, is positioned for mid-range smartphones and expands upon the foundation of its predecessor with incremental performance improvements, increased GPU capabilities, and improved AI efficiency.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 promises 7% better performance than predecessor

The latest Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 comes with a 1+3+4 core configuration. It includes a prime Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.7GHz, an upgrade from 2.5GHz used in the predecessors. There are 3x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz, and finally, we have 4x Cortex-A520 power efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm has promised an improved CPU performance by 7% thanks to the increased peak CPU speeds on the prime core; everything else on the CPU remains unchanged.

To balance the equation, Qualcomm did some upgrades to the Adreno GPU that now outputs 7% higher performance than the predecessor. The chipmaker has integrated some Elite Gaming features on the chipset, including Snapdragon Game Super Resolution and Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0. However, we will have to wait till the actual stats when the chipset comes into action.

Qualcomm mentions an updated Hexagon NPU on board that will translate into better AI performance, which is ultimately the need of the hour. We have UFS 3.1 storage support, LPDDR5 RAM at 3,200MHz, and Quick Charge 4+ tech on-board as well. On the connectivity front, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 ensures Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.4, and sub-6 GHz 5G. There’s support for ultra-wide displays up to 2,900×1,300 pixels at 144Hz.

That’s about it. The mid-range chipsets from Qualcomm don’t get much of an upgrade over the predecessors. Check out the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 if you want to see Qualcomm’s aura forming with its flagship chipset.
