After a tonne of speculations, leaks, and whatnot, Chinese OEM Vivo finally launched the much-anticipated Vivo X70 series in its home country – China. The series offers three smartphones dubbed as Vivo X70, X70 Pro, and X70 Pro+. The differences aren’t much between the three when it comes to design although the specifications w.r.t. the processor and the cameras have changed a bit. Here’s everything you need to know about the newly launched Vivo X70 series. Also, Vivo has teased the availability of Vivo X70 series outside China mainly India, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and more.
Vivo X70 Specifications & Pricing
The vanilla Vivo X70 features a 6.56-inch AMOLED 120Hz panel that boasts 1080×2376 pixels resolution, a 398 PPI density, and an almost 90 percent STB ratio. Turns out this is true for Vivo X70 Pro which shares the same display tech.
Moving on, the processor on-board is a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC which is an octa-core high-octane processor. It has a max 2.8GHz frequency and comes paired with Mali-G78 MP10 GPU, 8/12GB of RAM, and 128/256/512GB UFS 3.1 storage system on-board. There’s no expandable memory card slot on-board neither will you find it across the entire lineup.
The camera department is where Vivo has made a lot of distinction between the three siblings. Talking about the camera setup on Vivo X70, the device has partnered with ZEISS to provide the much-needed upgrade. The setup comprises a 40MP primary, a 12MP ultrawide snapper, and a 12MP telephoto snapper with 2x optical zoom. The sensors are new and improved even if they seem like a downgrade on paper. There’s no OIS here although there’s some degree of stabilization available for sure. Selfie shooter on-board Vivo X70 is a 32MP sensor.
Vivo X70 brings on-board a more than average-sized 4,400 mAH battery with 44W fast charging tech. There’s no wireless or reverse charging on-board. Finally, the phone is available in three color variants i.e. Nebula, Black, and White and you will get your hands on the phone starting September 30 with prices commencing at CNY3,699.
Vivo X70 Pro Specifications & Pricing
Let’s make the similarities between X70 and X70 Pro straight. The display tech is the same and the same goes for battery capacity and charging tech.
You get an Exynos 1080 from Samsung powering the device clocked at 3.0GHz max frequency along with Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and 128/256/512GB of UFS 3.1 storage on-board. These are the specs for the Chinese variant. On the other hand, the Vivo X70 Pro arriving in India and a few other countries will get Dimensity 1200 SoC (same as X70) minus the V1 chipset.
The camera setup has seen some upgrades for sure. Paired with ZEISS-branded T* lens coating and another tech, the setup includes a quad-camera setup which includes a 50MP primary, 8MP periscope telephoto, a 12MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide snapper. The first two sensors have OIS while the second and third sensors are equipped with 5x and 2x optical zoom respectively. The front module of the X70 Pro has a 32MP sensor housed in a punch-hole cut-out.
The Vivo X70 Pro goes on sale on September 17 (Friday) starting at CNY4,299 with the same color variants as that of X70. Its international availability is yet to be confirmed.
Vivo X70 Pro+ Specifications & Pricing
The largest among the trio, the topmost variant of the X70 lineup offers a massive upgrade and is the most powerful as well. It is backed by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset clocked at 3.0GHz max frequency. It is paired along with Adreno 660 GPU, up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. It has Android 11-backed OriginOS 1.0 running under the hood. The Indian and international variant of the phone will arrive with Android 11-powered FuntouchOS 12.
You get a large 6.78-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED panel boasting a 1440×3200 pixels resolution and HDR support. The new panel is LTPO in nature and has a variable refresh rate at a max 120Hz that can go as low as 1Hz. There’s a 300Hz touch sampling rate. The E5 panel is a lot better than the E4.
The camera setup, just like the siblings, comes with ZEISS-backed T* coating with other features making the setup enticing, to be honest. The T* Coating from ZEISS promotes ultra-low dispersion glass capable of reducing chromatic aberration during shots.
I am talking about a quad-camera setup with a primary 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor with 2.4micron binning with OIS. There’s a 48MP IMX598 ultrawide snapper with gimbal stabilization and a 114-degree lens. You get a 125mm 8MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom and finally, there’s a 12MP portrait shooter with 50mm length and an aperture of f/1.6. There’s OIS on the primary and periscope lens while the other two sensors have EIS.
X70 Pro+ uses a V1 chip for image processor and it uses a tonne of algorithms backed by advanced AI to capture shots like a pro.
The X70 Pro+ gets an IP68 water and dust resistance rating making it a sure shot upgrade over the predecessor. You can check out two vegan leather color variants i.e. Blue and Orange or go for a standard Black color variant.
A hefty 4,500 mAh battery sits under the hood suplied with 50W fast wired and 50W fast wireless charging tech on-board.
According to the pricing, the device commences at CNY 5,500 (or $850) for the 8GB+256GB variant while the higher 12GB+256GB goes up for sale at CNY 6,000 and finally, the top of them all, the 12GB+512GB variant is up for sale at CNY 7,000.
Note: Although Vivo has announced international availability of Vivo X70 series a day after it was launched, no dates were confirmed at the time of writing this. Also, not all models in the X70 series will be available in each country. The Pro variant sees some changes as mentioned above but some more changes are expected.
