With the recent spate in number of people, of all ages, hooked onto their devices playing high-end games like PUBG, many smartphone brands are venturing into gaming-centric devices to tap into this rising demand. As part of this trend, while Honor launched Honor Play, Asus came out with ROG Phone. Taking the competition a step further, Xiaomi-backed Black Shark have made the announcement that they would soon begin marketing their gaming smartphones in India.

Black Shark India is to be headquartered at Bangalore. Specifically targeting the gamer community, Black Shark will soon be rolling out its latest products, along with peripherals as well as services to consumers in India. While working out the details for making its foray into the Indian market as emphatic as possible, Black Shark shall be announcing the official launch date later on. The company is best known for its first Black Shark Gaming Smartphone, Xiaomi’s answer to Razor Phone, despite the Black Shark Gaming Smartphone seeing a limited release in 23 countries alone.

As of now, this Xiaomi-backed company has launched two gaming smartphones in China in 2018. While Xiaomi’s Black Shark was launched in April, Black Shark Helo saw an October launch. From the press release that stated“A Big ‘Hello’ to you from Black Shark and it’s India Team!” , conjectures are rife that, in all probability, the first phone to be released in the Indian market would probably be Black Shark Helo.

The Black Shark Gaming Smartphone has a 5.99-inch FULL HD+ display, along with a resolution of 2160X1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Powered by 2.8GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU, the Black Shark Gaming Smartphone has 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. With a liquid cooling system in place that keeps the phone temperature down during intensive gaming sessions, the company has stated that this liquid cooling technology can keep the phone cooler by around 8 degrees Celsius.

The Black Shark Gaming Smartphone is distinguishable among other similar phones on account of its gamer-centric design, flagship hardware as well as the additional controller – featuring a joystick along with a trigger button – provided with the device. In keeping with the tradition set by the Razor Phone, known as the first gaming smartphone, the Black Shark also has Green and Black designing on the rear as well as the sides of the device.

The Black Shark Gaming Smartphone has dual camera, 20MP+12MP, on the rear and a 20MP front camera. Running on Android 8.1 Oreo, the phone has 4000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Measuring 161.62×75.4×9.25mm, the Black Shark weighs 190 grams.

The Black Shark Helo followed soon after in October 2018. With a slightly bigger 6.01-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display panel, Black Shark Helo has a screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. Powered by 2.8GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 630 GPU, the Black Shark Helo has 10GB RAM with 256Gb storage. Dual camera on the device features a 20MP+12MP rear camera along with a 20MP selfie camera at the front. Backed by a 4000mAh battery supported by Quick Charge 3.0, the device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.

In keeping with its identity of a gaming smartphone company, both the phones launched by Xiaomi-backed Black Shark – that is, the Black Shark Gaming Smartphone and the Black Shark Helo – come equipped with a detachable controller to greatly enhance the gaming experience for any hard-core as well as casual gamer.

Fuelled by the resounding success with which Xiaomi’s sub-brands like POCO or Redmi have been met with in the Indian market, Xiaomi is confident that Black Shark will maintain the trend as well. With competitive pricing, the Black Shark Gaming Smartphone will give fierce competition to the other gaming smartphones such as ROG Phone and Nubia Red Magic.
