Yesterday, Xiaomi took to its Weibo handle to announce the official launch date for Xiaomi Mi 9. Through an official teaser poster, the company revealed that it will going to held an event on 20th of Feb. with an eye to announce its annual flagship, the Mi 9. In addition to that, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, also claimed Mi 9 to be the most beautiful device by the company so far. He also revealed the official code name of the handset,“Battle of Angels”, hinting at a beautiful design with a powerful hardware.

In addition to the release date announcement, some hands-on pictures of the upcoming Mi 9 has been also surfaced on the web, showing off the live unit for the first time. The device depicted in the photo has minimal bezels around the screen, together with a so called ‘Drop’ notch on the top. The display of the phone is rumored be an AMOLED panel, measuring 6.4-inches. In addition, the display is rumored to sport a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

Over the back, the device can clearly be seen with a glossy glass back, that has some gradient touches.  Most notably, the phone shown in the picture has vertically aligned triple cameras in the rear with an LED flash below the lenses. Interestingly, there’s no sign of fingerprint sensor at the back, so possibly the scanner will be built into the display. There’s no confirmation whether or not the image is legit, but the phone shown comes in line with what we have seen in some earlier leaked photos.

Although the offical specs of the Xiaomi Mi 9 are still not known, yesterday, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, have confirmed some major details about the device. As confirmed by the CEO himself, the Mi 9 will be the first phone from the company to pack a Snapdragon 855 SoC under the hood. In addition, the phone will have a triple camera setup at the back, but we are not sure about the megapixel count on this. As per the rumors suggest, the optics could be a combination of 48MP + 16MP lenses, together with a 3D ToF lens for depth analysis. Other rumored features include a 3,500 mAh battery with 27W fast charging support.
