Xiaomi Mi A2, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite launched: Everything you need to know

July 24 –  Xiaomi held a global launch of its latest mid-range smartphones Xiaomi Mi A2 and Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite in Madrid, Spain. These two smartphones present the second iteration of Xiaomi and Google’ partnership where both the devices are integrated with Android One program to receive further Android updates at lighting fast pace compared to other smartphones. Considering the specifications, Xiaomi has stated that the prices for these two smartphones are three times less compared to other smartphones in the similar segment.

The global event started at 14.30 IST where top executives from Xiaomi and Google gave their introduction and explained both the devices. According to Xiaomi, Xiaomi Mi A1 become the ninth best settling smartphone in February 2018 with a market share of 1.9% thereby competing directly with the industry giants such as Samsung, Apple, and others. Xiaomi introduced three variants of Mi A2 (2018) and two variants for Mi A2 Lite (2018). Here are the specifications and more you can find with these two excellent smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi A2 (2018) Design, Specs, & Price

Xiaomi Mi A2 is a premium aluminum unibody smartphone with discrete antenna lines. It has a symmetrical Type-C USB port and sports a 2.5D Corning Gorilla 5 protection which is tested for durability and scratch resistivity. The device 7.3mm thick which is a lot thinner compared to Samsung A8’ 8.4mm. The device is available in Black, Blue, and Gold color.

Talking about the camera, Xiaomi Mi A2 (2018) sports a 12MP with a large 1.25µm sensor and an aperture of f/1.75 capable of taking breathtaking and detailed photos and videos. The secondary camera in the rear dual-camera setup is a 20MP 2µm Super Pixel snapper which is twice the size compared to ordinary sensors that increase the light intake and produces bright and vibrant photos. It has an automatic lens selection that operates either the primary or the secondary or based the lens automatically based on the lighting conditions that gives the ability to take awesome photos in daylight as well as in low-light photography.

The front camera is a 20MP 4500K Selfie light camera with a 1.0µm sensor that takes quality photos. The device has an AI-powered semantic segmentation that takes the best shots based on the available lighting conditions including low-light photography and much more. According to Jan Gold, Director at Android Programs, Google chooses Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite because of their best-in-class specifications and aesthetic.

The device has a Google Assistant available with AI learning capabilities that lets the user customize the smartphone by setting reminders, booking tickets, making calls, and much more. The device is integrated with Google Photos that enables the user to store unlimited photos at high resolution without compromising much with the quality. It will be among the very first smartphones to receive Android P update once it is rolled out thanks to its integration to Android One program.

The smartphone has a 3,000 mAh long-lasting Li-Ion battery integrated with Google’ adapted battery feature that uses AI in order to access user’ usage pattern and works accordingly by tweaking the various features and processes under the hood. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processes which score an AnTuTu benchmark rating of 139,208 which is a lot higher than other devices in the similar segment.

There are basically three variants with varying yet highly competitive prices.

Xiaomi Mi A2 lite (2018) Design, Specs, & Price

The global launch event which held in Madrid, Spain has a 5.89” FHD+ display with a notch support that looks extremely premium and aesthetic. It is one of the first few smartphones to offer an aspect ratio of 19:9 that allows the phone to display a larger screen on a smaller surface. It has a rear fingerprint reader and a great exceptional design that feels great when someone holds it.

Xiaomi Mi A1 sported a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, however, this year, Xiaomi introduced the latest Mi A2 Lite with entry-level Snapdragon 625 processor which has been tweaked to provide exceptional speed with better battery efficiency. About the optics, it features a 12MP primary snapper with large 1.25µm sensor paired with a 5MP secondary camera that boasts the light intake for high-quality and detailed photos. It features the same AI portrait mode and semantic segmentation features that Mi A2 offers.

The device has a massive 4,000 mAh Li-Ion battery with dual pyrolytic graphite sheets that decrease the overall temperature of the device by 2° Celcius that automatically increases the battery efficiency. When tested on a two-hour video recording followed by playback on loop, the device performed exceptionally by providing battery backup for 7 hr 39 min of continuous playback when its opponent, Samsung Galaxy A6 completely drained at 6 hr 24 min.

About the price, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is available in two variants:

  • Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite 32GB, 3GB RAM at 179€ (Rs. 14,404)
  • Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite 64GB, 4GB RAM at 229€  (Rs. 18,427)

Xiaomi will roll out Xiaomi Mi A2 on July 27 across France, on August 8 in Italy, on August 10 in Spain, and later, globally across 40 countries soon. Although the Mi A2 Lite may not be available in India as of the recent update.
