Xiaomi has already released its MIUI 12 custom UI in its home country with Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth. It is already in a closed beta test program and it seems like Xiaomi could launch the upcoming UI globally on May 19.

Xiaomi shared a funny teaser on its Twitter handle. The teaser is a bit confusing since it allocates the same number to two different characters. However, the folks at GSMArena strongly believe the Chinese manufacturer is hinting at a release date of May 19 for its MIUI 12 globally. It adds that Xiaomi has already released MIUI 12 in China so it is expected to launch it globally this month itself.

MIUI 12 Global Launch

Note that MIUI 12 is still based on Android 10 since the Android 11 R is yet to launch sometime in Q3 2020 probably in September. Once Android 11 R releases, Xiaomi will tweak it and serve the Android 11-flavored MIUI 12 to a host of eligible devices. It has already released a list of 30 smartphones that are eligible for MIUI 12 beta testing and there could be more added once the stable version is released.

For India, Xiaomi has started MIUI 12 Global ROM pilot tester program registration which will end on May 14th at 9 PM IST. Here, users with Xiaomi Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro will be eligible to apply for the pilot testing. Note that the MIUI 12 beta build will be buggy at this time until all the bugs are fixed and a stable version is launched soon.

Xiaomi has also tweaked the permissions and privacy management aspect of the new UI. There’s a Xiaomi Focus Mode that lets you relax for the set duration similar to OnePlus’ Zen Mode. There’s a new Health app that will make its debut with MIUI 12 that gives wholesome features and services including detecting snoring and talking at night and whatnot.
