- Huawei is working on a wide-screen smartphone with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
- This unlocks a huge screen real estate, and will be among the first for conventional phones that often rely on taller stature rather than going wider.
- Huawei wide-screen phone is likely to arrive with a 50MP+50MP rear cam, Kirin 9000 SoC, and a 7,000mAh battery, as per the leaked specs.
The Huawei wide-screen smartphone is being tested out with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Tipped to arrive sometime later this year, probably after the Huawei Mate 90 series, the yet-unnamed and unreleased phone will bring a more practical and wider approach to non-foldable phones, a departure from the more common use across foldable devices. Here’s what the latest news brings to the table.
What the leaks reveal about the Huawei wide-screen smartphone
As per Digital Chat Station (DCS) via Weibo, Huawei is testing out a new wide-screen non-folding smartphone coming later this year. The phone, yet unnamed, will adopt a much wider 16:10 aspect ratio, aka a wider screen than usual slabs, giving it much higher screen real estate to explore.
Huawei was among the first OEMs to roll out wider screens on a folding phone. Soon enough, Xiaomi and Apple followed the trending aspect ratio for their folding phones. In fact, Samsung is adding a wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold8 next month, offering a much wider display to fondle. Cut to Huawei; the yet-unreleased phone is said to be in the works, and in fact, DCS got its hands on an engineering prototype, further adding gravitas to its existence.

Key specifications: what we know so far
The phone, seemingly wide, is still lightweight and thin, which means the world for interested buyers, as both heavyweight and thick phones are a dealbreaker. Apart from that, DCS mentions the alleged Huawei wide-screen smartphone to pick up a 50MP 1/1.3” super-large primary snapper plus a 50MP periscope telephoto, followed by a multispectral lens.
On the powertrain, the phone is tipped to arrive with a Kirin 9000 series chipset, making it an obvious flagship. There’s also a 7K-class battery that is at least 7,000mAh in size and will be great for users who don’t want to stay close to a power source to keep their phones afloat.
Launch timeline and availability
The Huawei wide-screen smartphone is said to launch sometime later this year. It could arrive right after the Mate 90 series (or in between), which usually arrives in the last leg of November each year. We are hoping the last quarter of 2026 will have some major launches, and this wide-screen phone could be one of the offerings, at least in China, if not the world.
