Get ready for AirPods with cameras on board. Yes, you read it right: the Cupertino-based tech juggernaut is working on such a device (and we’ve known it for a long time now). The latest instance comes from a reference on macOS Tahoe 26.7 Release Candidate (RC) where a short video appears showing how these AirPods will use Visual Intelligence to remember things.

According to the video recovered by MacRumors hidden inside macOS Tahoe 26.7 RC, it shows a person walking up to a novel “Could Should Might Don’t,” raising it above, and voila, the AirPods with cameras capture it and save it for later. The voice goes, “With visual intelligence, your world becomes savable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later”.
At first glance, people might not understand, but look closely; the guy is wearing AirPods, implying that the camera feed captures the book and saves it for later. The voiceover does mention ‘Visual Intelligence,’ and that’s where the cameras come into play. These aren’t ordinary see-through cameras but rather sensors that can see surroundings and help Siri’s visual intelligence get more context on the user’s whereabouts and happenings. For better understanding, this product is referenced as ‘B790’ in various records.
This helps Siri make better recommendations or answer accurately. It remains to be seen how and what exactly these AirPods with cameras can do in the near future. There are also different AirPods products in the making, referenced as B798. These could arrive in 2027, while the aforementioned B790 is slated to arrive as early as September or at least before this year is out.
Unfortunately, we don’t have details proving the release yet. We are hoping the B790 arrives alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series launch happening in the first half of September 2026. It is possible the latter B798 might not show up anytime, given Apple usually develops multiple versions of the same product before launching the most feasible one.
The traces were found across the Apple ecosystem
This is perhaps not the first time Apple’s rumored AirPods with built-in cameras were spotted, albeit discreetly. Sam Henri Gold, a developer, posted traces of the device codenamed ‘B790’ in the iOS 27 developer beta 2. Similarly, we have seen the references in iOS 27 code as well, thanks to the courtesy of Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in his Power On newsletter.
As Jack Reacher of the Amazon Prime Video series ‘Reacher’ says, coincidences are rare. Perhaps we could see something pop up before the end of this year tying visual intelligence and AirPods with cameras on board at Apple’s.
