  • Upcoming iPad Fold might have missed its 2026 launch.
  • With no concrete reason, there's unofficial report doing the round suggesting Apple is postponed the launch of 18.8" iPad Fold and now, it has been pushed to 2027 or 2028.
  • If true, this could push Apple a few more years behind Android counterparts who have already launched several generations of foldable devices already.

It seems like Apple iPad Fold, boasting an 18.8” display, is likely to miss the 2026 deadline. Apparently, it might be tossed around to 2028 based on the various estimates that we have so far. It kind of puts Apple in a seemingly disappointing position, given the fact that various Android smartphone makers have already been in several generations of foldable phones.

Apple iPad Fold launch is disputed, again!

There have been reports around Apple’s iPhone Fold and iPad Fold for ages. While the iPhone Fold might arrive, there have been several reports suggesting that the iPad Fold could arrive in 2026 or 2028. Both estimates are poles apart, and yet, it seems Apple might miss the 2026 production deadline.

Earlier, it wasn’t clear if Apple was talking about a foldable iPad or a MacBook, given the ginormous 18.8” foldable panel at the helm. Seems like reports there’s a heavy inclination towards Apple iPad Fold with a similar 18.8” display. This was further substantiated when Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo found a large foldable display in the supply chain.

According to the folks at MacRumors, both iPad Fold and iPhone 18 Fold (or just iPhone Fold) were expected to launch in late 2026. However, latest reports suggest a delay in production on the larger display, pushing the launch schedule of the iPad Fold. Jeff Pu, a lead analyst at an investment firm — GF Securities, says that the 18.8-inch” foldable iPad device has likely been postponed, although he didn’t back it up with the reason behind the delay.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg further adds that the foldable iPad would come around 2028, while Ross Young says it could make it in 2026 or 2027. Although we further mentioned how the Cupertino-based giant might have missed 2026 plans, it is still coming from unofficial sources and not directly from Apple.

This begs the question whether Apple will launch its foldable iPhone and iPad devices soon enough, and if so, whether it will have the same charismatic effect that the original iPhone had when it arrived in 2008.
