During the “Awe Dropping” event, Apple has officially launched a new addition to its lineup, the iPhone Air, which it calls the thinnest iPhone ever made. The new device features a titanium design, and Apple’s latest silicon innovations provide professional-level performance, durability, and advanced photography features.

A breakthrough design

The iPhone Air is Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, at just 5.6mm thick. Its body is made with a grade 5 titanium frame, making it strong and light. The front and back of the phone are protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says provides three times better scratch resistance and increased durability compared to previous models.

The iPhone Air has a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, which provides a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The display can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making it easy to see in bright sunlight. An Always-On display is also included, which efficiently drops to a 1Hz refresh rate when inactive to save battery life.

The iPhone Air has an Action button that allows for quick access to customizable functions. It also features Camera Control, a new button that makes taking photos and navigating apps more intuitive.

Advanced camera capabilities

Apple highlights the iPhone Air’s 48MP Fusion main camera, providing the equivalent of four lenses in one device. This camera system features sensor-shift optical image stabilization, low-light optimization, and multiple focal lengths for versatile photography.

The 18MP Center Stage front camera has Apple’s first square sensor for a front-facing camera. This allows users to take photos and videos in either portrait or landscape mode without having to rotate the phone. The camera also uses AI to keep subjects centered during video calls and automatically expands the field of view for group shots.

iPhone Air supports 4K60 Dolby Vision video, Action mode, Spatial Audio, and advanced post-processing features like Audio Mix and wind noise reduction for professional-quality recordings.

Powered by Apple Silicon

The iPhone Air is equipped with three new chips, the A19 Pro, N1, and C1X, making it Apple’s most power-efficient iPhone to date. The A19 Pro features a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU that are optimized for gaming, AI, and daily tasks. The N1 chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while the C1X modem provides faster cellular connectivity while using 30% less energy than its predecessor.

This hardware, combined with iOS 26’s software optimizations, enables all-day battery life and introduces Adaptive Power Mode to intelligently manage energy use.

eSIM and iOS 26 Integration

The iPhone Air will exclusively use an eSIM, which provides a thinner profile and enhanced security because it cannot be physically removed from the phone. The eSIM is supported by more than 500 carriers worldwide, enabling smooth connectivity and making it easier to set up service when traveling.

iOS 26 enhances the iPhone experience with Live Translation, visual intelligence features, and AI capabilities that protect user privacy. Users can now translate text and audio in real-time and screen incoming calls and messages. The update also brings improvements to CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet, as well as a new Apple Games app.

Accessories and sustainability

Apple introduced a range of iPhone Air accessories, including a MagSafe case, lightweight bumper, crossbody strap, and MagSafe battery pack. These accessories complement the device’s sleek design and improve usability.

The iPhone Air is in line with Apple’s 2030 environmental goals. It contains 35% recycled material, with 80% of the titanium and 100% of the cobalt in the battery being recycled. The phone is also designed to be durable, repairable, and energy-efficient, with 45% of its manufacturing powered by renewable energy.

iPhone Air pricing and availability

The iPhone Air will be available in space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue, with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Pricing starts at $999 (₹1,19,990), with pre-orders opening Friday, September 12, and availability beginning Friday, September 19.
