- The update comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman putting a lot of gravity to the redesigned launch order.
Tech giant Apple is en route to overhauling its entire Mac series, starting with the M5 MacBook Pro. As the name suggests, it will be powered by the yet-unreleased Apple M5 chip. The latest scoop from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple will launch the M5 MacBook Pro later this year, followed by the M5 OLED iPad Pro early next year.
Apple Flips Launch Order for M5 MacBook Pro
In our previous coverage, we mentioned that Apple is working on the M5-powered iPad Pro, slated for launch early next year. However, it seems the Cupertino-based giant has flipped the launch order, making the M5 MacBook Pro the first device to feature the upcoming M5 chip. The source? None other than Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, whose Power On newsletter has a strong track record of accuracy.
When it comes to the all-new M5 MacBook Pro models, details about the update remain scarce. However, Apple isn’t expected to introduce any major design changes, though minor refinements could be in the cards. The real upgrade lies in the hardware, as the M5 Apple Silicon is set to replace the current M4, promising enhanced graphical performance, computational gains, and, naturally, higher TOPS on its GPU compared to the M4.
Recent reports suggest that several Apple devices could launch around the same time as the M5 MacBook Pro. For instance, the M4-powered Mac Studio and Mac Pro are expected to debut around June 2025 at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Meanwhile, the M5 MacBook Pro could arrive this fall, possibly alongside the iPhone 17 launch. However, fans should take this timeline with a grain of salt.
We also expect Apple to introduce a redesigned M5 Mac Mini and an M5 iMac, possibly in the last quarter of this year. Looking ahead to 2026, the M5 iPad Pro is expected to make its debut. While a major design overhaul isn’t anticipated, Apple is reportedly focusing on achieving an ultra-thin form factor for the device.
