The original Google Tensor SoC just made it on Pixel 6 and we are already getting news about the upcoming Google Tensor 2 SoC. Well, if that wasn’t enough, it seems like Google and Samsung are working on a third-gen SoC probably named Tensor 3 or Tensor 2.5 as per Android Authority. Apart from that, Samsung itself is developing the successor to Exynos 1280 as seen on Samsung Galaxy A53.

Google is working on a third-gen Tensor SoC

According to the report published by GalaxyClub, Samsung is currently testing out the alleged Tensor 3.0 oC along with Google. Of course, there’s no official update available about it so you will have to take it with a pinch of salt.

The report further adds that the developers have codenamed third-gen Tensor SoC as “Ripcurrent” which will be a successor to Google’s Tensor 2 codenamed as “Cloudripper”. The former packs in a model number S5P9865 as per the reports which go in line with what trend Google has been following with the nomenclature. For context, the original Tensor SoC had a model number S5P9845 while the upcoming Tensor 2 is expected to get S5P9855.

Third-Gen Tensor SoC

We don’t have any more details about the third-gen Tensor SoC so yeah, you will pretty much have to wait for more updates to arrive. It is sighted that Google will be sticking with Samsung for its third-gen Tensor SoCs as well. The Tensor 3 is expected to arrive with the Pixel 8 series sometime in late 2023 so yes, it is simply too early to confirm the same since we have an entire Pixel 7 series releasing a few weeks later.

Apart from the second and third-gen Tensor SoC, Samsung is working on a successor to Exynos 1280 SoC that we have seen on Galaxy A53. Apparently, the model numbers on the Exynos series are identical to the Tensor units as well. The Exynos 1280 was S5E8825 and the upcoming successor is likely to get model number S5E8835 showing the progress of a generation. It is likely to be named Exynos 1380 SoC and will possibly make it to Galaxy A54 sometime next year.
