Honor finally announced their first gaming-centric smartphone in the Indian shore today. Honor Play is a mid-budget smartphone which comes with the powerful processor and some unique gaming-related features. Honor as well as the parent brand Huawei is continuously bringing more and more smartphones in the Indian market. At an event in New Delhi, the smartphone maker announced two storage variants of the device.
Speaking of some key features, Honor Play comes with Kirin 970, GPU Turbo tech combined with 4D gaming experience and 19.5:9 Display. Just like Huawei’s Nova series, this smartphone is also available exclusively via Amazon India. There are some launch offers discussed below which you can enjoy. Honor Play is basically the Nova 3 in most aspects. The only difference is the Play has an aluminum back while the Nova 3 sport a glass back. Other than that, the camera performance on Nova 3 is better than the Honor Play.
Honor Play specifications
Honor Play comes with a large 6.3-inch full-HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The smartphone, on the front, has an almost bezel-less design featuring a notch. As usual for the notch haters, you will get an option in the settings menu to hide it. One of the key aspects of the device is its performance thanks to the powerful processor packed inside. It is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset which comes with four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The Kirin 970 processor also comes with NPU (Neural Processor Unit) coupled with Mali-G72 GPU.
Speaking of storage variants, the device is available in either 4GB or 6GB of RAM combine with 64GB of onboard storage. You do get an option to expand the storage via MicroSD up to 256GB. In terms of optics, Honor Play has a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a primary 16-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and a secondary 2-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. The rear sensors are accompanied by PDAF as well as an LED flash. Unlike the back, there is only one selfie shooter of a 16-megapixel sensor having an aperture of f/2.0.
All of this runs on a large battery with a capacity of 3750mAh and EMUI 8.2 on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo. Other specifications include dual Nano SIM card slot, Bluetooth v4.2, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back. Honor Play measures 157.91×74.27×7.48mm and weighs 176 grams.

To recall, the GPU Turbo technology said to increase the performance by up to 60% with the reduction in battery consumption by up to 30%. The numbers seem pretty impressive here.
On top of that, there is a feature which the brand calls it “4D Gaming Experience” that also enhances your overall gaming experience. The device can detect a number of gaming scenes such as explosion, shots, and quakes. On top of that, it has 3D sound experience which helps you to clearly hear from where a particular sound is coming. If you play FPS games then with the help of this feature you can easily tell where the footsteps or gun firing is coming from. Honor Play also comes with a special film on the display to give you reflection-less experience while gaming.
Honor Play pricing in India and launch offers
As mentioned previously, the device is available exclusively on Amazon India. The base variant which has 4GB RAM is priced at Rs. 19,999 while the 6GB RAM variant will set you back Rs. 23,999. Honor Play will be available starting from Monday at 4 pm IST. The smartphone is available in two different colours variant – Midnight Black and Navy Blue. There are some early launch offers which include Amazon Prime subscription, 10GB Additional internet data for 12 months if you’re on Vodafone network and some cashback offers on Axis bank cards.
