  • Huawei is ready to launch its second-ever tri-fold smartphone on September 4.
  • It is being dubbed as Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Edition, successor to Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design.
  • It might be priced at CNY 20,000 with not much changes to the design although it remains to be seen for sure.

If you didn’t get enough of the first one, Huawei is ready to roll out its second tri-fold smartphone, dubbed the Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Edition. The phone is set to launch on September 4th at 2.30 pm local time (1 pm IST). Here’s more.

First look at Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Edition

Richard Yu, Huawei Consumer Business Group’s CEO, has shared a short teaser video showing the phone in action. Of course, the video shows a tri-fold smartphone, but there are no details available to back it up. We can see Yu wielding a stylus, and the phone has a white colorway with gold accents, in line with its predecessor.

Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) took it to Weibo, teasing Kirin 9020 SoC as the powertrain running the tri-fold. It will have a 1+3+4 core architecture, similar to Huawei’s Piura 80 series, paired with Maleoon 920 GPU, which handles the graphics processing.

Huawei Mate XTs Extraordinary Master (translated from Chinese) packs in satellite connectivity as well. There’s a 50MP primary shooter at the back flanked by a variable aperture and a secondary periscope telephoto shooter. Huawei is calling it “Red Maple”. Finally, we should get two colorways with the device — White and Crimson Purple. We have already seen the white variant with gold accents, as spotted in the video teaser by Yu.

We are hoping most of the specs and design will remain unchanged, especially around the displays and battery pack under the hood. The phone is likely to fetch a similar price to Mate XT, i.e., CNY 20,000 or USD 2,800.

The first-ever tri-fold smartphone (Mate XT Ultimate Design) from Huawei was launched in September 2024, just after the iPhone 16 series arrived. We will be getting our hands on the iPhone 17 series on September 9, as the official date just came out. This means Huawei is probably launching its next-gen tri-foldable phone a few days before Apple unleashes its next iPhones.
