Huawei proudly advertised its latest sales record on its official handles such as Facebook and Twitter after it reached a global sale of 200 million units. Huawei Technologies has managed to overtake Cupertino-based Apple for a full year after backtracking it last year and falling just short of Samsung which is the industry leader in terms of sales.
A new report published by Nikkei Asian Review stated the latest sales record achieved by Huawei Technologies after it sold a whopping 200 million units which are about 30% increase from the last year’s 153 million units sold. The report highlights the popular Huawei Mate 20-series, Huawei P20 Pro with Germany’s Leica lens and Honor 10 series as one of the sales drivers in 2018.
Last year, Huawei controlled 10.4% of the global smartphone market while Samsung tops the chart with 21.6% and Apple at the second position with 14.7% selling almost 215.8 million units while South Korea-based Samsung sold more than 300 million units last year.
Back in the second quarter of 2017, Huawei overtook the sales records of Apple which is by far a great achievement since both Samsung and Apple have been the only top contender in terms of units sold for the last eight years. This gave Huawei a lot of traction clubbing it with the hype that the Chinese maker has been able to maintain by rolling out smartphones with contrasting features and hardware.
However, Huawei Technologies has been subjected to bans from several countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia highlighting the controversies that surrounded the brand with sensitive data leaks. Similar, New Zealand and the U.K. banned Huawei components from the next-gen 5G networks while Japan recently banned ZTE and Huawei due to its alleged data leaks.
Smartphones sales are taking a hit for the second year straight and this has affected even the top contender Samsung while Apple has tasted the same medicine too.
