After entirely moving their biometric authentication process towards facial recognition on the iPhone X, i.e. Face ID, from a reliable and convenient fingerprint scanner, Apple has literally upset a few of its iPhone users. Although Apple promised a ton with the launch of FaceID, there are several flaws and slip-ups that rendered frustration among the users.
The “Ask to Buy” or “Family Sharing” is a feature present in the App Store which lets parents know if their kids are seeking to purchase any games or apps from their account and also gives them the privilege to grant permission in the form of signal approval to do so. This feature was introduced to help parents make sure of their kids’ app downloads.
However, for using this feature to purchase anything from the App Store and also grant permission to your kids, at first you have to authenticate your actual identity. And for that, obviously, you have to use the Touch ID, but now the scenario is quite changed if you are an iPhone X user. It was more reliable to use this “Family Organizer” feature with Touch ID earlier, however, the Face ID on the iPhone X can’t be used for authenticating purchases on the App Store and grant permission for the family. Parents can still approve app request from their kids with iPhone X by entering their complete Apple ID password.
So, most probably this might be a strong reason why Apple is not allowing Face ID to support “Ask to Buy” or “Family Sharing” with your own identity, which is also presumed by many users till now. Still, Apple didn’t disclose the actual reason behind this.
