In the teaser posted on Twitter, Xiaomi says “hello” to other laptop makers within the country Dell, Acer, HP, Lenovo, and ASUS. This hints that the Mi laptop is coming to India. As the teaser was posted by Mi India, one should expect the launch of Mi Notebook and not RedmiBook.
After the teaser that seemingly confirmed the launch of the Mi Laptop in India, the chief business officer at Xiaomi India, Raghu Reddy revealed some interesting insights in an interview with Economic Times.
“Our research showed that PC is a category that remains largely underpenetrated and the frequency of upgrades has become bigger in the last few years,” said Reddy.
“The second thing we realized is that people in this category spend a lot of time figuring out what to buy. That happens because there is a profusion of SKUs (stock-keeping units). Each brand has anywhere between 30 to 40 SKUs in the market in just the Core i5 series,” he said.
Xiaomi also plans to get after-sales services for PCs ready so customers are not left stranded in case of any issues or damage to the laptops. “We have a network of 1500 service centers for smartphones. When we launched TVs we realized our service centers for mobile will not do justice to TVs. So for TVs, we build a network of 500 service centers catering to a larger perimeter in that region. Similarly, we want to ensure people have the right service experience for PCs,” adds Reddy.
The tipster, Ishan Agarwal said that Jain informed the retailers about the launch of the RedmiBook, and Mi Notebook in India, last month. There are no plans announced by Xiaomi related to entering the laptop market in India with its new models. But we might soon see the Redmi Book, Mi-branded laptops coming to India.
Adding to the present, a report by Windows Central suggests that Xiaomi won’t launch an existing model in India but a replacement variant though a politician confirmation on an equivalent is awaited.
