OnePlus probably has the shortest success story in the smartphone industry but it is also one of the most significant ones. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were undoubtedly the best Android phones from the last year, at least in their segment, and are soon to get a successor in the form of OnePlus 5.
In an exclusive talk with The Verge, OnePlus has confirmed to unveil their next flagship this summer and it will sport the ‘OnePlus 5’ moniker. The ‘OnePlus 4’ name will be skipped altogether because of tetraphobia (the practice of avoiding the number 4) prevalent in China and some other parts of Asia.
The OnePlus 5 would indeed be the fifth flagship phone from the Chinese company if you take the OnePlus 3T launched late last year as their fourth device. OnePlus’ love for the number five jersey of former NBA player Robert Horry was the motivation behind the name. Horry is admired by a number of OnePlus employees, and as per The Verge, the OnePlus’ Shenzhen office has two paintings of the player hanging.
While the phone’s name has been confirmed to skip a digit, OnePlus has also confirmed that their next flagship will be out this summer. Like in the case of OnePlus 3, we are expecting the company to unveil the OnePlus 5 next month.
As per the recent reports, the OnePlus 5 would come with a Snapdragon 835 along with 6GB of RAM. Its internal storage is also expected to be bumped to 128GB, and a version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is also expected. The battery capacity of the phone will be 3600mAh with support for improved Dash charge technology.
We had earlier reported about the sample images taken from the OnePlus 5 and they give us a fair idea how the phone would be. OnePlus is said to include a dual camera setup for their 2017 flagship.
