Introducing the charismatic Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus (and of course, Galaxy S22 Ultra) released at the certainly flabbergasting Samsung UnPacked 2022 launch event that was held earlier today on Feb 9. The duo arrives with flagship cadre processors and a lot of other upgrades compared to their predecessors. Plus, the duo arrives with similar S21-inspired designs while the elder brother S22 Ultra has made a bang with its updated design. Let’s dig more into what the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus has to offer.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus: Display

Galaxy S22, S22 Plus Display

Apparently, the most significant change you would find on the S22 and S22 Plus duo is with the screen size. I am talking about the 6.1″ display size on S22 while the S22 Plus has a 6.6″ so that’s a huge jump in size. There’s difference in PPI as well so I am talking about 432 and 390px PPI on the S22/S22 Plus duo respectively.

The differences end there as both the devices use 2X Dynamic AMOLED panels with 10-120Hz super smooth refresh size. Of course, the fine refresh rate tuning is only reserved for the Ultra variant.

The display mounted on S22 lights up a bit less than its elder variants with a peak 1500 nits whereas both S22 and S22 Ultra have a peak brightness of 1750 nits.

Unfortunately, for those who thought that Samsung will reprise the design for the Galaxy S22 series, well it did for the Ultra but both the vanilla and the Plus variant remains unchanged design-wise. It still has rounded edges, a punch-hole cut-out for the front camera and a large camera bump at the back that fuses with the frame on the left side. It still gets a dual-tone color pattern so the camera bump is slightly darker than than the rest of the back panel.

You do get the usual stuff from a USB-C port, a stereo speaker system, a tightly-packed bezels, and a few things here and there. Again, Samsung hasn’t included a 3.5mm headphone jack and at this point, you should know that it won’t add it either.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus: Hardware and Software

Both the devices run on the latest OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12 so you literally get the best of both worlds.

When it comes to the hardware part, the device is strapped with two chipsets based the region you buy it from. There’s a Snapdragon 8 Gen1 variant equipped with Adreno 730 GPU or you can choose from a Exynos 2200 SoC paired with Xclipse 930 GPU. Both the chipsets are fabbed on a 4nm fabrication method which is way efficient than a 5nm node.

As usual, both the devices are integrated with the latest tech in RAM and ROM. This includes a UFS 3.1 storage with 128GB and 256GB of capacity and again, it depends on the region you buy the phone from. Moving on, we have LPDDR5 RAM at 8GB capacity. You can say it is unfortunate that Samsung thought it would be okay to not include a 12GB variant but that’s what it is.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus: Camera

As I mentioned, there are just a few differences between Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus and camera setup is not one of them.

Talking about the camera department, both the devices have a triple camera setup. This includes a 50MP wide-angle primary camera with Dual Pixel AF, 85° FoV, and OIS. There’s a 12MP ultrawide cam with 120° FoV and finally, there’s a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom alongwith with OIS, 36° FoV.

At the front, you will have a punch-hole cut-out at the front housing a 10MP module with 80° FoV. That’s all you get with the camera department.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus: Battery

When it comes to the battery onboard, you get a 3,700 mAh battery pack with a typical rating of 3,590mAh on the Galaxy S22. On the contrary, it’s elder sibling Galaxy S22 Plus gets a 4,500mAh while the typical value of the batterypack is at 4,370mAh.

Talking about the charging tech, Galaxy S22 is paired with 25W wired charging tech, 15W wireless charging tech and has Wireless PowerShare capability. Instead of 25W, you get up to 45W of wired charging tech on Galaxy S22 Plus along with 15W wireless charging tech as usual.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus: 5G, Security, and other features

Both the devices have 5G. Apart from that, S22 supports Wi-Fi 6 while S22 Plus gets a Wi-Fi 6E tech onboard. Additionally, you get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for authentication while the facial recognition is available as well.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus: Pricing and Availability

The pricing for both the devices depends on the variant you pick and the region you are in. You can choose from a myriad of color choices ranging from Phantom White, Pink Gold, Green, and Black.
