Google has finally unveiled the Android 9 Pie i.e. the ninth iteration of the Android operating system today. For months now, the ‘P’ in Android P remained a question after which, people started curating dessert names that Google could choose but Google never responded on any of the moniker stated. But finally, it unveiled that the Android P is actually Android Pie for which, an absurd looking statue was unveiled at the Google’s Mountain View campus at 3:14 pm PT.
Merely a day-in after the launch, Android Pie is available on Google Pixel devices as well as Essential Phone as an OTA update while other smartphones signed up for Android Beta program will have to wait for some more time until the official release for the selected smartphones this fall.
Now that Android Pie is here, let’s talk about the various features it has which has impressed the masses. For Pie, Google actually paid close attention towards its security and privacy while providing various AI tools and a bunch of other features that make it one of the lucrative operating system to have. To start with, it has an Adaptive Battery feature that works around with the battery, analyzes its consumption and adjusts the brightness and battery output accordingly in order to save that extra juice of battery for later.
Google has remastered the user interface of the new Android P making it look stunning and beautiful with white-colored background embossed with four primary colors such as Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue that you will get to see everywhere. Search for Uber and the machine learning capability of Android P will redirect you to Uber and feed in the information itself providing faster and quicker access to these services.
Other feature called App Actions detect everyday usage and allows the user to access the used feature or app depending upon the time of the day. Android P has gone new navigation UI that makes it look chic and stylish. It now has notch support that allows the apps to work properly around notches which have been a matter of concern for smartphones manufacturers as standard Android OS with notch support suffers problems with smartphones that have notches.
The notification tray has been revamped with new icons that have been hollowed from inside that makes it look stylish yet relieve the system from the excess visual mass that these icons could pull. The notification has gone white although the user could set the default color as black in the later updates. The notification tray has received a smart reply feature that works with AI to provide replies based on the message sent which means, now you wouldn’t have to type the message but select from the message suggested by the AI.
One of the most imperative and impressive features is the Digital Wellbeing feature which Instagram and Facebook unveil recently and now its Android Pie. The feature records activities and time spent on all the apps and thus, provide an upper limit on usage of any app thereby limiting user’s tech addiction. The light like Night Light and Do Not Disturb have their own benefits that make Android Pie and stunning OS to use.
As said, Android P has strong security and privacy aspect of the users such as by providing a dedicated chip that stores biometrics and other sensitive data about the user along with unified fingerprint dialog that makes the OS stealthy against data theft. Android P will have an Apple iPhone-like gesture-based navigation where a single button house on the front will show home screen, recent tabs open, slide between two apps and much more.
