South Korean tech juggernaut Samsung is gearing up for it’s August 7 Galaxy UnPacked 2019 event next month where it will launch the new Galaxy Note 10 lineup along with Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. As earlier rumored that Active 2 could have an electrocardiogram feature built-in, it is highly probable that the feature won’t roll out this year.
A report by Wearable further adds that although Active 2 could have the ECG feature built-in, it won’t roll out at least until the first half of 2020. This is because Active 2 with ECG hasn’t received an FDA approval which is crucial for rolling out such features. Furthermore, the feature will be activated as soon as Samsung receives the approval and it will send out a software update to activate the feature with all support Active 2 smartwatches around the globe.
Speaking about the upcoming Galaxy Watch Active 2, it will be available in three models i.e. LTE mode, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth-only model and finally a third Under Armour-branded model with Bluetooth. There will be two variants or sizes i.e. 40mm and 44mm similar to how Apple sells its Apple Watch Series 4 or previous iterations.
The Under Armour model of Active 2 will feature a MapMyRun integration along with six months of service and an exclusive sport strap onboard. Samsung will unleash the ECG capability of its upcoming Active 2 smartwatch at the event while the feature will have to wait for official approval from FDA as earlier explained. The smartwatch will still feature heart sensors that will detect if the heart rate drops too low or jumps too high as said.
According to GSMArena, Samsung is also waiting to receive approval for its Fall Detection feature as well which won’t be available in time for the market launch next month so expect this feature sometime later as well.
Samsung Galaxy Active 2 will have features from both Watch Active and Galaxy Watch series from Samsung. Samsung is attuned to concentrate more on fitness and health functionalities of the smartwatch which means it will have plenty of features related to the same such as on-device coaching, Samsung Health integration, sleep tracking, although it will also have Samsung Pay and Bixby support that makes it an all arounder.
Lastly, Samsung Galaxy Active 2 will be available on both Android and iOS although the LTE functionality won’t be available for iPhone users at the launch but it is planned to support the said feature soon. The LTE model will be available in four color variants with leather strap and stainless steel case while the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth model will be available in three case colors and matching straps and will have an aluminum body.
