  • Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset on November 26 in China, confirming its arrival two months after the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
  • The chip features a 3nm process and custom Oryon CPU cores, with clock speeds reaching up to 3.8GHz for the prime core.
  • Multiple upcoming smartphones are expected to adopt the chipset, including models from OnePlus, Vivo, Redmi, and Poco.

Qualcomm has officially announced the launch date for its next flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. It will debut on November 26 in China, joining the Snapdragon 8 series lineup just below the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Launch timing and official confirmation

The launch date was confirmed through Qualcomm’s post on Weibo, placing the unveiling exactly two months after the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s debut in November. This announcement comes as phone makers prepare their next premium and upper-midrange devices for 2025.

Expected architecture and performance

During its September event, Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 uses a 3nm process and has the custom Oryon CPU cores, which first appeared in its more expensive platforms.

According to Qualcomm, the prime CPU core reaches 3.8GHz, while performance cores run at 3.32GHz. While full specs are not official, these details suggest a major improvement in efficiency and performance.

Industry reports suggest the chipset may use the Adreno 840 GPU, the same graphics in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Early leaks by analysts note the physical GPU units may be reduced to differ from the Elite model, but the GPU might still run at a 1.2GHz clock speed.

Benchmark insights from early reports

Though Qualcomm hasn’t shared official benchmarks, early third‑party leaks have appeared. Alleged Geekbench results show the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 scoring about 3,000 in single‑core tests and around 10,000 in multi‑core performance.

Additional reports claim the chipset may clear 3.3 million points on AnTuTu, putting it near premium mobile processors. Testing data shared by independent reviewers suggests the SoC could sustain over 100 FPS in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins 1440p benchmark, though Qualcomm has not confirmed these figures.

Smartphones expected to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Although Qualcomm has not named partner devices yet. However, several upcoming smartphones are reportedly preparing to use the new chipset. This is according to industry sources cited in Chinese and global tech media.

  • OnePlus Ace 6T (expected globally as the OnePlus 15R)
  • vivo S50, which may launch internationally as the vivo X300 FE
  • REDMI Turbo and Poco F8, which are expected to share the platform

Manufacturers usually start using new Snapdragon chips quickly after launch, which makes these devices likely to be early adopters.
