Netflix is a premium video streaming website and app that features thousands of originals as well as other content but there’s something it lacks, it’s the ads. If you are feeling left out with no ads in-between two episodes of you binge-watching an entire season of 13 Reasons Why or Narcos, Netflix is trying out ads that will pop up in-between two episodes, although the ads are in-house and about various Netflix content and not from other companies. This was brought to light by Redditors who encounter ads on Netflix for the first time and that’s how we came to know about its experimenting trails.

A Reddit user named ‘WhyAllTheTrains’ posted on August 16 that he/she came across an ad on Netflix for the first time when he/she was watching an episode of “Rick and Morty”. The episode ended but instead of commencing with the next episode, Netflix showed an ad for “Better Call Saul” and that’s not all. The ad had a timer and no Skip button similar to how users can press the skip button on YouTube videos. This starting a slew of comments from other Reddit users such as one of the Redditor stated how he came across an ad from “I am a Killer” when he was watching episodes of “Bob’s Burgers”.

Netflix previous stated that the ads on the platform are experimental to understand the user’s interest and how showing ads increase the consumption of other TV shows and movies as well. Netflix has become one of the premium video streaming websites that works on a subscription basis and has almost replaced traditional premium services. However, ads could disrupt the growth of users on Netflix as they could resort to other service providers if such ads keep popping up everyone a subscriber is switching between episodes.

A subscriber on Reddit said that he would discontinue using the service if he ever comes across such ads. As per Tech Times, the ads on Netflix might be experimental and not in all regions. For instance, the Rick and Morty episodes aren’t available for Netflix subscribers in Canada and the United States which means, the user who started posting on Reddit is from another country. Anyhow, if Netflix resorts to showing ads, it would force the subscribers to search for an alternative to enjoy seamless and ad-free binge-watching experience.
