I have seen a wide range of devices with maximized screen real estate using a plethora of ways such as by using a pop-up single or even dual front camera or motorized camera unit that works for both front and rear while some smartphones go as bizarre as almost bezel-less such as Huawei Mate 30 Pro which literally has no left and side edge thanks to its 88° curved display and so on. Many smartphone manufacturers have opted for small notches and even punch-hole cameras to maximize the screen but everything seems to be limited to mid-range and high-end smartphones.
This is where the latest patent filed by Xiaomi comes into the picture. The Chinese smartphone maker has filed a few designs that take the selfie camera to the corners as you can see here. Fig 1 shows a dual-sensor located on the top-right and top-left corners while Fig 2 shows a slightly different design with dual-cameras posted on top-right and left corners.
That’s not all. There are a few bizarre designs as well such as shown in Fig 3 which shows dual front selfie cameras with the corners protruding a bit something like ears while Fig 4 shows a subtle dual-sensor located in a standard form factor which resembles much like Pixel 3 XL although there’s no notch here.
The cutouts for selfie cameras as seen are pretty bizarre but note that these could just be patents and not something the company is looking to release which is a common practice.
