- Phone by Google can now warn users about scam calls that pretend to come from trusted contacts.
- Quick Share now makes it easier to transfer files between supported Android devices and iPhones.
Google has announced the June Android Drop, bringing several new features for Android users. The update includes several features that focus on safety, easier sharing, personalized experiences, and better ways to use Google apps. The new tools will roll out gradually to supported Android devices.
New protection against scam calls
Google is rolling out a new feature in Phone by Google to help users avoid scam calls. The tool can detect when a scammer is pretending to be someone from your contact list.
If a call appears to come from a trusted contact but is not actually from that person’s device, Android will show a warning. This allows users to quickly identify suspicious calls and avoid potential scams. The feature is available on Android 12 and newer devices that use Phone by Google.
Circle to Search helps find complete outfits
The Circle to Search feature is getting a new upgrade. Users can now search for an entire outfit they see in a photo or video without leaving the app they are using.
The tool can identify clothing items such as shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories, helping users find similar products online. Google says this feature is available on Android 14 and newer devices that support Circle to Search.
Google Photos gets a digital wardrobe
Google Photos will soon offer a new digital wardrobe feature. The tool will organize clothes that appear in a user’s photo library and create a personal collection of outfit ideas.
Users can browse their clothing, save favorite looks, and explore different outfit combinations. Google plans to start rolling out the feature next week to eligible users in the United States, India, and Brazil on Android 10 and newer devices.
More safety features for kids and teens
Google is improving the Personal Safety app with features designed for younger users.
Children under 13 will be able to add medical information and emergency contacts that can be viewed from the lock screen. They will also have access to car crash detection, which can contact emergency services and notify emergency contacts after an accident.
Teenagers will be able to use features such as Safety Check and real-time location sharing with trusted contacts. The Personal Safety app is available worldwide.
Google Play Books adds reading tools
Google Play Books is receiving a new feature called “Catch me up.” It helps readers quickly remember what happened earlier in a book before they continue reading.
Users can also point out sections and ask questions about characters, themes, or story details. According to Google, the feature is rolling out for select English-language books, including many free titles.
Easier file sharing between Android and iPhone
Google is improving Quick Share to make sharing files between Android phones and iPhones easier.
Users will be able to send photos, videos, and documents more smoothly across supported devices. Google says the update is designed to make sharing content with friends and family on different mobile platforms more convenient.
June Android Drop adds new Emoji Kitchen
This update also adds new options to Emoji Kitchen in Gboard. Emoji Kitchen allows users to combine different emojis into unique stickers. The latest update includes more combinations to give users additional ways to express themselves in messages and chats.
