- Google introduces the first-ever Quick Share and AirDrop integration, allowing direct file transfers between Android and iPhone devices.
- Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are the first phones to receive the feature, with broader Android support coming in future updates.
- The update responds to long-standing user requests for simpler, faster, and more universal file sharing across operating systems.
Google has begun rolling out a major update that enables Quick Share and AirDrop integration, allowing Android and iPhone users to share files seamlessly for the first time. The feature is debuting on the new Pixel 10 series, with broader Android support expected in the coming months.
A step toward easier cross-platform sharing
For years, smartphone users have struggled to move photos, videos, and files between Android and iOS. Apple’s AirDrop and Google’s Quick Share both make wireless sharing easy in their own systems, but the lack of cross-compatibility has long frustrated households with mixed devices.
In a blog post, Google said it has listened to user feedback requesting “a simpler way to share files between devices,” stressing that sharing important moments should “just work,” regardless of the phone someone owns.
How Quick Share and AirDrop integration works
Starting today, Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro users can share files directly with nearby iPhones through Quick Share. The experience is designed to function similarly to traditional AirDrop transfers, users simply select Quick Share, choose a nearby iPhone, and send the file instantly over a secure connection.
Google noted the feature was built with security at its core, using protections checked by independent security experts. This fits the company’s push for better connection across platforms, including RCS support and tracker alerts for both Android and iOS.
A demonstration video from Google shows the integration running on the Pixel 10 Pro, which highlight a quick and smooth user experience.
More devices expected to gain support
While the functionality is only for the Pixel 10 family at launch, Google confirmed it plans to expand Quick Share–AirDrop to more Android devices over time. The company did not specify a timeline or models, but said improvements will continue as it rolls out.
