Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman posted a newsletter “Power On” that discusses how Apple is working on a major redesign for the Apple Watch launching next year. Aptly named Apple Watch X to celebrate Apple Watch’s 10th anniversary as it was originally released in 2014, the Apple Watch X is set to get a major redesign coming right after Apple Watch Series 9’s minor changes.
Apple Watch X is likely to arrive with a thinner case and different methods to attach wrist bands to the watch. As of now, the mechanism is too bulky eating into the space available on-board Apple Watch. The Cupertino-based giant has been using the same attachment method ever since the introduction of the original Apple Watch.
With that being said, the Apple Watch Series X is likely to use a magnetic band system for attachment. It should give Apple Watch X enough space for a larger battery or tech or other internal components. However, it remains unclear whether Apple already has the system in place or not onboard the purported Apple Watch X.
Moving further, Apple Watch X might upgrade to a microLED display technology, unlike the current-gen OLED screens where the former surpasses color and clarity. It might be the first device to feature the blood pressure monitoring which has been in the works at Apple’s too.
For those who are unaware, Apple Watch Series 9 is slated to arrive in a few weeks. Although it brings new color options and faster processors, it will be a minor refresh to the predecessors. Gurman states that Apple Watch Series 9 is “arguably the most minor upgrade in the product’s history” which goes on to show how Apple is marketing the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9. Coming back to Apple Watch Series X launch date, it is expected to arrive in 2024 or 2025. This is given the fact that the original Apple Watch was unveiled in 2014 and launched in 2015.
The Cupertino-based giant is considering changing the annual upgrade cycle since it brings uncertainties in terms of substantial updates. Rather, Apple might switch to an 18 month or so refresh cycle to give it enough time for Apple to bring noticeable upgrades to the tech.
